Buganda Kingdom Minister of Sports, Leisure and Recreation, Henry Ssekabembe, is optimistic about the staging of the 2021 Masaza Cup.
Speaking through the Masaza Cup publicity office, Ssekabembe said that the Kingdom is doing all they can to stage the tournament.
"I want to assure the Buganda Kingdom that the 2021 Masaza Cup tournament will be held. Plans are underway to lay strategies that will be introduced before the committee of ministers and eventually made public to the general kingdom," said Ssekabembe.
"We have seen the European championship and Copa America tournament successfully played with fans after vaccination. These countries ensured massive vaccination of their people. We should adapt this as well.
"I urge the government and Parliament to emphasize vaccination and this will help us overcome various lockdowns in the country."
Last year's Masaza Cup was delayed due to Covid-19 but was eventually held after the testing of players, officials and other support staff. It was played in a bubble at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru between 12th December 2020 and January 2021.
The final was held at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on March 6 this year with record winners Gomba beating rivals Buddu 3-1.
