Bombers captain Shadiri Bwogi has apologized to Ugandans for having exited the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at the hands of Georgian boxer Eskerkhan Madiev on Tuesday.
Bwogi lost the close round of 16 men’s welterweight (63-69kg) bout by split decision after the judges scored 29-27, 28-28, 26-30, 26-30, 26-30 in favour of Madiev.
The 24 year-old expressed his gratitude towards the support he received before breaking down to say “sorry” for his misfortune.
In a tweet Bwogi said; “Victory have [sic] many fathers but Defeat is an Orphan, thanks to all my people who wished me well in the on going Olympic games and am sorry for the lose [sic],its been a great experience, next time better.👏Inshallah.”
Bwogi was Uganda’s last man standing in the boxing category before joining Catherine Nanziri who lost to Japanese soldier Tsukimi Namiki and David Ssemujju who bowed out at the hands of Younes Nemouchi.
