Ugandan long distance runner Joshua Cheptegei has confirmed his participation in the Cannes 10 km road race on March 6. The Olympic champion in the 5,000m in Tokyo last year and world champion in the 10,000m in 2019, will be running his race of the 2022 season. The event will be organized as part of the half-marathon scheduled in the Riviera city. On this occasion, Cheptegei will launch its 2022 season Cheptegei currently holds the world records for the 5,000m (12:35:36, since August 2020) and the 10,000m (26:11:00, since October 2020). Over 10 km on the road, the Ugandan has run 26:38, which was, at one time, a world record and is today the second best performance in the world of all time (behind the 26:24 from Kenyan Rhonex Kipruto in 2020).
