The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has announced Uganda will host the 2022 Women’s Championship. The decision was made at CECAFA’s Annual General Assembly held on Friday, 25th February at the Four Points By Sheraton Hotel in Arusha, Tanzania. “While the Assembly agreed that a criteria for members planning to host be drawn for the other six tournaments planned for the year, Uganda made it clear they were ready to host the Women’s Senior Championship,” reads part of the statement from CECAFA. FUFA President Moses Hassim Magogo believes the tournament will be good preparation for both Uganda and Burundi who have qualified for the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations. “The Championship will help to polish both Uganda and Burundi ahead of the Women Africa Cup of Nations in July and as FUFA, we are willing and ready to host it,” said Magogo. The dates for the tournament will be announced at a later time. The last time Uganda hosted the Championship was in 2016 and Tanzania lifted the trophy.
