Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC title defense with a goalless draw against Bright Stars on Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

WhileVipers did not create clear-cut scoring opportunities, it’s a good point earned for Asaph Mwebaze who made a sounding return to the local league touchline for the first time since 2019.

Abdu Lumala, playing in the Uganda Premier League for the first time, was the pregame best possible source for Vipers goals but his deliveries couldn’t be converted by Yunus Ssentamu, Bright Anukani, and Abubaker Lawal at different intervals.

Bright Stars will have goalie Hassan Matovu to thank as he kept out Lumala's effort as well as Sentamu at different intervals.

Bright Stars had some share of chances, with their best falling to new signing Amis Muwonge but his header off Ibrahim Kasinde’s well-weighed ball was collected by goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza.

Vipers now switch focus to their CAF Champions League second preliminary round first leg tie against TP Mazembe to be played next week.
