President Yoweri Museveni has rewarded athletes who brought glory back home from several recent international events they took part in.
The stars smiled to about Shs300m in prize money for their stand-out performances via a luncheon at State House Entebbe on Thursday.
The head of state was particularly pleased with the silverware from the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games in England.
"I congratulate those who won medals," Museveni is quoted by Daily Monitor. Uganda also won three medals from 17 athletes at the Oregon World Athletics Championships in the USA and nine medals from 42 competitors at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey.
Victor Kiplangat who won Uganda’s first silverware in Birmingham by clinching the men’s 42km marathon gold received a brand new Renault Koleos.
Kiplangat also collected Shs50m for the victory while his brother Jacob Kiplimo received Shs100m for his 5000m and 10000m double victory in Birmingham.
She Cranes took Shs20m after taking fifth place - their best finish ever - in Commonwealth Games history.
Rugby Cranes who won the Africa 7s in Kampala and later were crowned the Bowl trophy winners at the Sevens Rugby World Cup in South Africa got Shs20m just like Cricket Cranes who claimed the Africa T20 Cup in South Africa.
