Andrew Ssekibejja dethroned Joseph Cwinyai-ai, winning the 2022 Uganda Amateur Golf Open on Saturday.

The Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa artisan golfer took advantage of a course he knows so well to tally a total of 300 strokes over four days.

He opened the tournament with a course 1-under par 71 to top day one but faded to a 4-over 76 on day two as Michael Tumusiime took over the leaderboard.

He played 3-over 75 to restore his lead going to the last round that had the pressure group of Tumusiime, defending champion Joseph Cwinya-ai and Godfrey Nsubuga of Mehta Golf Club.

Backed by the crowd on the final day, Ssekibejja was in scintillating form, recording three birdies on the par 5-hole no.2 and par 4 holes 5 and 6.

Double bogies on holes 8 and 9 put him a stroke behind Tumusiime but despite bogies on holes 10 and 11, he parred hole 12, recovered with a birdie on 13, registered pars on 14, 15, and 16 to level the score.

Ssekibejja registered a birdie on hole 17 to all but seal the championship as his closest rival Tumusiime played four strokes more.
