She Cranes’ head coach Fred Mugerwa has assembled a provisional squad of 30 players ahead of the 2023 World Cup.
The local players are expected to start training on Monday, April 17 at Kamwokya Sports Centre.
“We intend to start training on Monday to prepare for the upcoming World Cup that will be held in South Africa,” Mugerwa said during a press conference at Serena.
“We intend to train for only three days a week so that we allow players to go back to their clubs.”
“This is to allow players to prepare for the East Africa Club Championship that will take place in Nairobi next month and also allow a smooth climax of the league,” he added.
Ahead of the non-residential training, Mugerwa named Irene Erayu of KCCA as the acting team captain.
Mugerwa says the selection was not an easy task since the scoop is large but after further review by the technical team, they derived 30 players.
“We sat with the technical team to come up with the list of players to be summoned. We believe they will give us the best to represent the country.”
Uganda is pitted in Group D alongside powerhouse New Zealand, Singapore and Trinidad and Tobago.
While hosts South Africa are in Group C with Jamaica, Wales and Sri Lanka.
The Netball World Cup is set to get underway on July 28 and climax on August 6.
