Peace Proscovia will not be in the She Cranes squad that will represent Uganda in the Netball World Cup to be held in Cape Town, South Africa due to personal reasons. The development left a void in the role of the captaincy of the girls as they take on the long-awaited assignment. According to Pulse Sports, Irene Eyaru has been advanced from vice-captain to captain. Eyaru will be deputized by experienced Margaret Bagala. “Eyaru has been promoted to captainship from deputy captain,” Fred Mugerwa, She Cranes head coach told Pulse Sports. “Eyaru will be deputized by Margaret Bagala because those two are senior members of the team and take up the roles with immense experience,” he added. “I have a lot of faith and confidence that they will be able to lead their teammates at the upcoming World Cup.” Eyaru is also captain at her local side KCCA and she will not be new to the demanding role. According to Mugerwa, the team will be trimmed to 20 players as they enter camp as they continue to dust off the squad. “We have continued to have the problem of the sun and rain. But that will be put aside the moment we enter the camp because we shall be playing in the indoor,” he noted. “We are going to reduce the squad to 20 players and the trimming will base on individual performance in particular positions. I'm looking at someone with attacking and defending ability because versatility is always a plus,” he concluded. She Cranes continues with the preparations ahead of the global competition that will be held from July 28 to August 6. Uganda is pooled in group D alongside Trinidad and Tobago, Singapore and New Zealand.
