  • Mwenge North 1(3)-1(5) Burahya County

Burahya County had to negotiate the lottery of the penalty to finish third in the 2023 MTN Tooro Masaza Cup.

The two sides played to a one-all draw in the normal time (75 minutes) before Burahya went on to register a 5-3 victory in the penalty shootout at Buhinga Stadium, Fort Portal on Saturday.

It was a very physical game and encounter as the two sides played their souls out seeking for the bronze medals the occasion.

Last year Burahya finished fourth and taking home bronze this time round will be a step into the right path going forward.

Mwenge North’s defence had a moment of madness as they played the ball into the area. Burahya were quick to respond and ascended in numbers.

Mwenge's custodian tried to act quickly hence making a foul but the ball met Ronald Alituha and he placed it into the back of the net to give Burahya the lead.

Mwenge nearly responded on time after Sharif Aruha made a quick run on the right flank but the forward’s effort went across the goal mouth.

Denis Mugabi came close to levelling matters but his volleyed effort was blocked thus leading to Mwenge’s corner kick.

At the end of the 35 minutes (half time), it was Burahya ahead amidst being the second-best team in the game.

Five minutes into the second half, Aruha’s low hard effort found the back of the net to restore parity for Mwenge North.

Amidst trial to take lead from both sides, nothing could separate the two sides after the end of the 75 minutes and the referee sent both sides into a penalty shootout.

Burahya’s penalty spot kicks were converted by Ronald Baguma, Godfrey Tinka, Allan Tutegeki, Mahad Ayiga and Yasin Maliki.

While Mwenge had three penalties converted through Sharif Aruha, Emmanuel Tumuhirwe and Norman Tumusiime before Henry Atugoza missed his take.
