  • Vipers SC 2-1 Kitara FC

Vipers SC registered a narrow 2-1 victory against Kitara FC in the Uganda Premier League at St Mary's Stadium, Kitende on Thursday.

In a game played under floodlights, the hosts fought from a goal down to register maximum points on the day.

Yunus Sentamu put a golden chance to waste after guiding the ball wide of the right post with only a goalkeeper to beat leaving Vipers' fans in shock.

Jude Ssemugabi gave Kitara the lead after easily tapping home Denis Omedi's delivery in the 12th minute.

Kitara nearly extended their lead but Jasper Aheebwa's delivery rattled off the frame before it was cleared by Livingstone Mulondo.

With three minutes to play in the first stanza, Sentamu was fouled in the box after being fouled by defender Donato Okello.

At the start of the second stanza, Vipers introduced Ashraf Mandela and Allan Okello to replace Eric Kambale and Siraje Sentamu.

While Kitara also brought on Frank 'Zaga' Tumwesigye for Paddy Muhumuza.

Anukani extended the Vipers' lead after being set up by Okello through a well-weighed through pass. The midfielder beat custodian Crispus Kusiima with a curling effort to complete his brace.

In the final minutes of the game, Ramathan Dudu nodded home but the assistant referee judged him to be offside.

The victory carries Vipers to the second position with 23 points while Kitara falls to fourth with 19 points.

Next on the menu, Vipers will visit Maroons on Wednesday, December 13 while Kitara host Express a day earlier in Masindi.
