Gaddafi FC JT secured a 2-0 victory against Vipers SC JT on the matchday one for the FUFA Juniors League at Gaddafi Arena on Sunday.
It was a tight game since most of the players on either side had been groomed from the Rays of Grace Academy.
Disan Mwebe gave Gaddafi FC JT the lead before the end of the first stanza. The hosts were right at the back not giving room for Vipers to operate in the middle park.
Abubakali Walusimbi came close twice with long-range efforts but the Vipers JT captain missed the target by inches before the custodian also thwarted the ball away.
Mwebe found the back of the net again in the second half to seal off the hard-fought victory.
After the final whistle, Gaddafi FC JT head coach Felix Ssekabuza told the press that he expected a tough game and prepared the boys.
“I expected a tough game against Vipers because they are one of the strongest teams in the league,” he said.
“However we prepared for a tough duel and the boys fully responded. I am glad that they put up a great fight and it gives us a great start ahead of the long journey,” added.
