• Vipers 3-0 Iganga Young

Vipers registered a 3-0 victory against regional league outfit Iganga Young in the Uganda Cup at the round of 16 at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday.

Ghanaian forward Fumador Asiwome had a chance to place the hosts ahead in the fifth minute but he lost footing as he tried to meet Milton Karisa’s delivery.

Allan Okello tested the goalkeeper Joseph Wigan with a powerful effort but the custodian was equal to the challenge palming it away for a corner.

In the 25th minute, Karisa came close but his diving header off Mohamed Salem’s cross rattled off the frame before the rebound was cleared.

Ten minutes later, Asiwome was fouled in the forbiden area and Vipers were awarded a penalty that was calmly converted by Abdu Karim Watambala.

Five minutes into the second stanza, Salem doubled Viper’s’ advantage with a well guided curler into the right bottom corner.

With a minute to the hour mark, Okello came close as he witnessed his effort bounce off the frame after going through a forest of legs.

In the 72nd minute, Fazil Tumwine opened his Vipers’ account with a simple tap-in off Watambala’s ground delivery.

At the end of the day, Vipers returned to winning ways after playing to two draws in the Uganda Premier League.
