Jacob Kiplimo reigned supreme after defending the World Cross Country championship in Belgrade.

Kiplimo joined Kenenisa Bekele and Paul Tergat to defend his title at the world stage. Kiplimo will have to win two more to equal their record of winning five in a row.

Shortly after the race, Kiplimo expressed his excitement after winning the championship stating that it felt sweeter than the first one.

“It actually feels more exciting to successfully defend my title than to win the first one,” Kiplimo stated.

“But it was also tougher. I came here expecting I could win again, but the field was really strong,” he added.

“The course was fine, a little challenge with obstacles. It was a little tough running in the heat, but that wasn’t a major issue.”

Kiplimo believes that the accolade will boost his morale after failing to make it to the outdoor World Athletics Championship last year due to an injury.

“I was hungry for medals after missing Budapest last year. I was in good shape, but the injury happened and I had to get treatment but am now back.”

However, Kiplimo now switches his focus to winning the 10,000m gold in the upcoming Olympics games.

“My goal this year is to do what Joshua did and win an Olympic gold. My main focus is the 10,000m but I am not sure yet if I want a double.”
