Vipers SC advanced to the semifinals of the ongoing FUFA Super 8 after eliminating NEC on the away goals rule.
Vipers shared spoils with NEC in a 1-1 draw in the quarterfinal encounter played at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Tuesday evening.
Milton Karisa fired Vipers ahead before Dickson Niwamanya levelled matters on the day.
NEC’s first chance fell to Enock Ssebagala in the 19th minute, but his weak effort from close was easily collected by Vipers custodian Jack Komakech.
Seven minutes later, Derrick Ndahiro connected with Grant Matsiko’s cross from the left flank, but it went straight to Hannington Ssebwalunyo’s palms.
Karisa put Vipers ahead after looping the ball past Ssebwalunyo in the 45th minute. The pacy forward gained possession benefiting from Ibrahim Kiyemba’s miscued clearance.
Hillary Mukundane nearly doubled Vipers’ lead in the 47th minute, but the defender’s header went narrowly above the frame.
Komakech made a stunning save, palming away Niwamanya’s effort from close range in the 75th minute.
Niwamanya finally found the back of the net in the 87th minute after guiding the ball past Komakech, who had come out of his goal.
Vipers will await the winner between Villa and FUFA Select Team in the semifinals of the ongoing tournament.
