  • Kitara 1-2 NEC

Vipers secured a well-deserved 3-0 victory against Express in the Uganda Premier League encounter at St Mary's Stadium, Kitende, on Thursday.

Under the floodlights, Milton Karisa (brace) and Fumador Asiwome scored Vipers' three goals to register maximum points.

The victory ensured that the Venoms got off the mark following a 3-1 loss to NEC in Matchday One in Lugogo.

Milton Karisa found the host's opener in the 21st minute with a simple touch from close range.

Ernest Ankunda's shot bounced out of Micheal Kagiri's gloves before Vipers' skipper was quick to poke the ball home.

Samuel Ssenyonjo's powerful effort from outside the box nearly levelled matters, but Vipers goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu quickly palmed away the effort.

Four minutes later, Vipers nearly doubled their lead through Allan Okello, but the goalkeeper Kagiri spread his body wide to make a big save.

In the final minutes of the first stanza, Vipers were pegged on the back foot, but Alpha Thiery Ssali's effort sailed inches wide of the frame.

Okello thought he had doubled Vipers' lead in the 55th minute with a header from close range, but his effort was flagged offside.

In the 70th minute, Rashid Kawawa got a glorious chance to find the equaliser, but his touch on Ssenyonjo's delivery was so poor.

Five minutes later, Karisa doubled Vipers' lead with a touch few steps away from the line after Express' backline failed to clear the ball from the area.

With seven minutes left on the clock, Fumador Asiwome extended the hosts' lead with a powerful effort on a sweet turn.

Up next, Vipers will play against Lugazi at Lugazi Stadium in Najjemba on Thursday, September 22.
