Ivan Mayanja scored the lonely strike as Maroons secured a 1-0 victory against Mbale Heroes in the Uganda Premier League encounter on Thursday.

In the game that was played at Prison Grounds, Luzira, the hosts were on the front foot from the opening minute to the last.

Mayanja gave the hosts the lead in the 15th minute after converting from the 12-yard mark.

Mbale Heroes tried to return to the game by throwing several bodies upfront but the hosts' backline stood tall and firm.

Ivan Asaba had a chance to double Maroons lead but his penalty was saved in the 42nd minute.

In the second half, the Maroons kicked off with the right rhythm but failed to go past Delton Oyo's gloves, who was eventually voted man of the match.

Five minutes into the second stanza, Jackson Nunda and Godwin Kitagenda were introduced for Denis Rukundo and Mayanja.

The victory takes Maroons in the fourth position with 22 points while Mbale Heroes have nine points in 14 points.
