Vipers secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Maroons in a Uganda Premier League encounter on Saturday.

In a game played at St Mary's Stadium, it was a closely contested game but the hosts grilled maximum points out of the encounter.

Allan Okello came close to giving Vipers the lead in the 13th minute but goalkeeper Simon Tamale calmly collected the effort.

Three minutes later, Vipers were awarded an indirect freekick after Rogers Torach was kicked on the head in the dangerous area.

Moses Waiswa and Allan Okello stepped before the former curled the ball into the back of the net.

In the 25th minute, Kenneth Kimera had a chance to double Vipers' lead but the forward nodded the ball wide of the frame.

Ivan Asaba tried to drive the visitors upfront but Nicholas Wadada put in a great shift to mark the talisman.

Two days into the second half, Nicholas Wadada's searching cross almost dropped into the net but Tamale palmed the ball over the frame.

In the 52nd minute, Gusto Mulongo beat his marker but failed to find the target from a tight angle.

The widens Vipers' lead on the log with 34 points while Maroons have 22 points in 15 games played.
