Uganda Women’s National Volleyball Team (Lady Volleyball Cranes) is set to return to action for the first time in nearly four years. The Lady Volleyball Cranes whose last action came in 2019 are to start preparations for Zonal Qualifiers for the All Africa Games that will be played later this year in August in Ghana. Uganda has bid to host the Zonal Qualifiers in June at the MTN Arena in Lugogo where the 2019 zonal tournament was also hosted and won by Kenya. Sadik Nasiwu, the president of the Uganda Volleyball Federation, confirmed the development during a press briefing on Monday in Old Kampala. "We have a very competitive advantage in the lady's category and we are very excited to see them play again. We are also not just participating, we want to compete," Nasiwu said. The team will be coached by Peter Tonny Lakony assisted by Bart Munting and Mariam Nakamanya. For the next six weeks, training will be held once a week (every Tuesday evening from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm) at the International School of Uganda in Lubowa. "We want to do it [train] once a week for the start because these players are going to be busy with their Clubs as we are entering the National League playoffs. "Then after, we will train twice or more in a week. We will even change venues to Old Kampala and Lugogo and we shall hopefully enter Residential Camp in May." The Training Squad
