It was a great start for Mengo SS who had to fight from a goal down to see that they take home maximum points after falling to the hosts early. Makerere College lit up right away seeking an opener as the home crowd rallied behind them with chants and vuvuzelas. In the ninth minute, quick-footed forward Brian Mukulu broke the deadlock guiding the ball into the back of the net. Mengo Senior Secondary School nearly levelled matters but the long-range shot from John Senfuma rattled off the frame. Nine minutes later, Mengo took the lead through Ukasha Ssentamu after being set up in style by John Senfuma. With four minutes to end the first stanza, Senfuma was in the right place to tap home a corner after Makerere College failed to clear its lines. In the second half, Makerere had a better show taking the ball to the opponent but could not go past Mengo’s defence line. The opening match was graced by the FUFA president, Eng Moses Magogo together with tournament chairperson Dr. Apollo Ahimbisibwe.
