- Teso 1-2 Busoga
Busoga Province registered a 2-1 victory against Teso Province in the first leg of the semifinal clash of the ongoing FUFA Drum at Soroti Stadium on Saturday.
Isaac Wagoina scored in either half of the game to ensure Busoga secured the bragging rights after the first leg of the semifinals.
Robert Eseru pulled back one for the hosts in the entertaining piece of action.
Amos Kirya gave Teso’s backline a lot of headache as he continuously made great and quick runs at the right flank but his two quick crosses were hardly attended to.
Halfway way the first stanza, Jerome Kirya remained with a goalkeeper to beat but lost balance before he skied his attempt.
In the 36th minute, Simon Opio Misaki tripped Amos Kitya in the box thus awarding Busoga a penalty. Wagoina stepped up and simply guided the ball past goalkeeper Hassan Matovu to place Busoga ahead.
Bakari Magunda nearly levelled matters but his header went wide by inches after he had beaten the whole of Busoga’s backline.
As Teso was fighting to get back into the game, goalkeeper Matovu made a big howler as Wagoina’s chilly freekick went through his legs.
The hosts did not let their guards low as they kept pushing till the last minute of the game to try and give the home crowd something to smile about.
Lanky forward Eseru finally gave the hosts the consolation goal with four minutes left on the clock.
The other semifinal clash will see Lango take on West Nile at the Akii Bua Stadium in Lira today (Sunday, January 21).
