2025 AFCON Qualifiers | Fixture
- Uganda vs South Africa - 4pm
Uganda Cranes are set to face South Africa in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Friday.
Both nations have already secured their place in the upcoming tournament but will still compete for the top spot in Group K.
South Sudan's hard-fought 3-2 victory over Congo Brazzaville confirmed the AFCON qualification of Uganda and South Africa with two games remaining.
With Uganda leading the group on 10 points and South Africa trailing with eight, both sides will aim to maintain their unbeaten records.
The two teams will meet for the second time, having drawn 2-2 in the first leg at Orlando Stadium.
Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has urged fans to come out in large numbers to support the team.
"We urge the fans to turn up in big numbers to create the desired atmosphere," he said.
"We want to win this game, but the players alone cannot achieve this. We need the 12th player to push the team forward," he added.
With Muhammad Shaban and Derrick Nsibambi unavailable, John Paul Ddembe is an option in the central attacking position.
Geoffrey Wasswa returns to the national team, while Hakim Kiwanuka and Mutwalibi Mugolofa are set to make their debuts.
On the other hand, South Africa will be without Mihlali Mayambela, Lyle Foster, and Themba Zwane due to injuries.
This will be the sixth encounter between the two sides. South Africa has won three matches, while two have ended in draws.
