SC Villa secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Lugazi in their Uganda Cup encounter at Lugazi Stadium.
Reagan Mpadde scored the decisive goal, earning SC Villa the bragging rights on the day.
Frank Mulimi had an early opportunity to put SC Villa ahead in the 5th minute after being set up by Sula Matovu, but his effort was well saved by the goalkeeper.
Aslam Semakula came close in the 10th minute with a powerful low drive, but his shot went narrowly wide of the target.
Midway through the first half, Elvis Ngonde tested the Lugazi goalkeeper with a powerful strike, but the shot was parried away.
In the 36th minute, Francis Onekalit rose highest in the area, but his header sailed just over the crossbar.
Onekalit thought he had given SC Villa the lead in the 55th minute when he found the back of the net, but his effort was ruled offside by the assistant referee.
With just a minute to the 70th minute mark, SC Villa finally broke the deadlock. Mpadde calmly placed the ball into the back of the net to give his side the lead.
Mbappe had a golden opportunity to double SC Villa’s advantage, but his effort was expertly tipped over for a corner kick.
The victory sends SC Villa into the quarterfinals as they continue their quest for a record-extending 10th Uganda Cup title.
