Uganda Premier League | Sunday Results

  • UPDF 0-1 Vipers SC

Vipers secured a hard fought 1-0 victory against UPDF in the Uganda Premier League at Bombo Barracks Grounds in Luwero in Sunday.

The Venoms were lucky having gotten the lead early because as the game grew, the pitch became unplayable after the opening of the heavens.

Yunus Sentamu nearly placed Vipers in the driving seat in the 5th minute after being set up by Bright Anukani but his curled effort went narrowly above the frame.

Livingstone Mulondo nodded home five minutes later after a mix up in the hosts’ box. UPDF’s backline failed to clear Anukani’s corner kick and Mulondo was in the right place to slot home.

Eric Kambale nearly doubled the visitors’ lead but his powerful header off Anukani’s cross narrowly went wide in the 19th minute.

Six minutes later Milton Karisa placed the ball in the back of the net but the goal was cancelled having cited a foul in the build up to the goal.

The game was suspended at half an hour mark due to heavy rains and resumed after 18 minutes.

At half time it was 1-0 in favour of the visitors. The hosts were given an assignment to chase the score in search of parity.

Eight minutes into the second stanza, Abdu Lumala set up Sentamu but UPDF FC goalkeeper Simon Mabuya pulled off a stunning save.

Aggrey Kiirya was given the second yellow thus sending him off the playing ground and UPDF reduced by a man remaining 10 on the battlefield.

After the victory, Vipers moved to the second position on the log with 20 points while UPDF are 13th with eight points after playing nine games.

Next on the menu, Vipers will host Kitara while UPDF will visit Gaddafi on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
