Uganda U20 Women’s National Team is through to the fourth round of the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
Ayub Khalifa Kiyibngi's charges eliminated South Africa on Friday after playing to a goalless draw at Dobsonsville Stadium in Johannesburg.
"I'm so happy that we have managed to eliminate South Africa. I thank my players for the commitment shown today and for making sure we pick a good result.
"We only hope to keep the same attitude at the next round and achieve our ultimate target of qualifying for the World Cup," Kiyingi said after the game.
The barren stalemate played in Uganda’s favour having won the first leg at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on 3rd Decembercourtesy of Hadijah Nandago's lone goal of the game.
Uganda will now face the winner between Ghana and Zambia at the fourth round which is the penultimate phase of the qualifiers for the global tournament that will be hosted in Costa Rica.
The first leg meeting between Ghana and Zambia ended in a goalless draw and the two nations will face off in the return leg tomorrow (Saturday).
Africa will have only two representatives at the final tournament.
