Stephen Kissa produced a noteworthy performance to finish second behind Joshua Cheptegei over 5000m at his national championships in 2015.

His breakthrough was when he won selection for the six-strong Ugandan team at the 2017 World Cross Country Championships held on home soil in Kampala.
