Special Presidential Advisor Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has doubled down on the construction of a new multi-purpose indoor facility.
In early May this year, the Former Commander UPDF Land Forces revealed that the government planned to refurbish the arena.
A couple of months later, Gen. Muhoozi tweeted while referencing the BK Arena - an indoor arena in Kigali, Rwanda saying; "This is one of our promises to our youth!
"We want an indoor sports facility in Uganda as soon as possible! It will be the greatest in East Africa and it will happen without a doubt!"
The BK was built and finished in 2019, and it hosts sporting events and concerts. It is the biggest indoor arena in East Africa and is located next to the Amahoro Stadium.
Lugogo complex was opened in 2010 by President Yoweri Museveni, but later after a few games of basketball action, it was suspended after the turf developed patches.
The renovation was completed in August 2010 when a Dutch firm, Descol sports services, finished installing the multi-purpose floor that will be used for basketball, boxing, table tennis, and volleyball.
The Lugogo Sports Complex is Uganda’s oldest and biggest indoor sports facility, which was constructed in 1954 and officially opened in 1962.
It is used for games like basketball, boxing, table tennis, badminton, and volleyball.
