Uganda dominated proceedings on April 23 at the 2023 Madrid Marathon, winning gold in men's and women's categories. Geoffrey Kusuro won the men's category (2:10:29), and Doreen Chesang did the same in the women's category (2:26:31). Kusuro staved off competition from Kenyans Sila Kiptoo and Bernard Kimkemboi, who crossed second and third, respectively. Doreen Chesang led the women's race and posted 2:26:31. Ethiopia finished in second place, Fetale Tsegaye at 2:32: 18 and Marta Galimany third in 2:37:47. Elsewhere, Stella Chesang, set a national record in the Hamburg Marathon as she posted 2:20:2 to settle for third place.
