Uganda women’s national golf team was flagged off for the 2024 All Africa Golf Championships in Morocco.
The tournament tees off with the official practice round on 27th November at the Tazegzout Golf Course in Agadir and will climax on 30th November with 54 holes played.
State minister for sports Hon. Peter Ogwang flagged off the team at the Uganda Golf Club, Kampala on Friday, 22nd November 2024.
“Go and represent the country gallantly. We are proud of you and believe in yourselves,” said Ogwang.
Captain Peace Kabasweka, Martha Babirye and the long-hitting Meron Kyomugisha are the three players on the team.
These will be joined by the head coach Flavia Namakula, team manager Gloria Mbaguta, Dorren Mwesigye (president of Uganda Ladies Golf Union) and Wendy Angudeyo (captain, Uganda Golf Club).
“We have prepared very well with good training at the Lugazi Hills and Country Club as well as the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa courses. These players have been carrying their own golf kits and we tackled every aspect of the game. We have the right yardages for the course in Agadir and we are ready for action,” head coach Namakula stated.
Kabasweka, Uganda’s captain, expressed readiness for the All-Africa Championship.
“We are ready mentally and physically for the tournament in Morocco. We thank the coach and the leadership of Uganda Ladies Golf Union for the support”, Kabasweka revealed.
There are now 21 countries confirmed for this tournament.
Last year, Uganda finished fourth in the same tournament in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
KCCA Football Club head coach Abdallah Mubiru admits the defeat to NEC that ended his side’s unbeaten run is a setback but promised a reaction.
The Kasasiro fell to Muzamir Mutyaba’s strike and relinquished the top spot to Hussein Mbalangu’s men who are now on 19 points, one better than KCCA.
“It is a setback but we shall bounce back stronger because the league has not been won or lost today,” Mubiru told reporters after the match.
“There are still lots of points to play for and the focus now turns to games ahead.”
Mubiru also believes his side was better on the day but couldn’t convert the opportunities they created.
“I don’t think we played poorly. We attacked and created chances but somehow, things didn’t work out in the final third and I don’t blame anyone. It was simply not our day because the opponent got one opportunity and they scored. Congratulations to them.”
Asked whether he felt playing Gavin Kizito and Said Mayanja who had arrived in the wee hours on Friday from Congo with the national team was a mistake that haunt his side, Mubiru differed.
“They gave us what they could and I don’t regret fielding them.”
KCCA’s next task is away to Lugazi FC on November 30 at Najjembe.
The curtains will come down to the 2024 National Rally Championship with the season finale scheduled for this weekend in Hoima district.
The battle will be between Jas Mangat and Ronald Sebuguzi, the top two in the standings and each eyeing a fourth national title.
However, the two drivers have thrown the season-ender into a three-way title thriller with Moustapha Mukasa with an outside chance.
The arrival of his new car affirmed Mangat’s intent for the title at the beginning of the season and the Pili Pili Rally Team has won all the events they have participated in this year. Even after missing two events, the crew finds itself at the top of the table ahead of the season finale.
His pace, preparation and strategy have never been doubted. He is the most approved driver in Uganda considering all race aspects.
Mangat remains the favourite to win the title and all they need is to finish ahead of the chasing Sebuguzi.
Although he did not have a good start to the season, Sebuguzi found some luck, picking up points where others dropped which has seen him earn points good enough for second position, just three points behind Mangat.
Sebuguzi will need the pace, the strategy and luck to finish ahead of Mangat; and that will guarantee him a fourth NRC title.
Meanwhile, outsider Moustapha Mukasa has had an amazing rally season. He is without a doubt one of the highlights of the season. It is this season that he registered his maiden podium finish in NRC as well as topping the NRC leaderboard.
All was going well with the Drug Express Team, until the penultimate round; a non-finish in Gulu rally was a blow to the title chase. They start the rally with 35 points behind the leader Mangat. A huge gap but have a chance at the title.
Only a non-finish from the top two crews can hand him a title, provided he wins.
The Top three crews ahead of the finale.

The tournament features teams; Rwanda XI, Rwanda A, and Zimbabwe Emerging which will provide a competitive platform for rising stars on the continent.
Uganda A is led by seasoned campaigners Roger Mukasa (captain) and Simon Ssesazi who are looking to regain form and emerging U-19 talents aiming to make a mark.
UCA Selector and Team Manager, Richard Okia, emphasised the importance of this tournament.

It offers players invaluable exposure to international-level competition, allowing us to identify future stars and build squad depth for Uganda Cricket’s long-term success,” Okia noted.
Davis Turinawe, the Uganda A Coach for this tour, highlighted the dual benefit of nurturing young talents that have come through the development pathways and providing a platform for experienced players to refine their skills.

The Bafana Bafana of South Africa defeated Uganda Cranes in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers match played at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
The game started on a slow note as South Africa preferred to build play from the back with short passes.
Both sides were not sharp upfront as they struggled to get goalkeepers on either side in action.
Khalid Aucho and Aziizi Kayondo made back-to-back timely tackles to deny Evidence Makgopa and EliasMokwana, who had a clear sight on goal.
Allan Okello had flashes of brilliance beating his markers, but the end product was far from what was required.
James Morena broke the deadlock in the 48th minute with a simple finish after a huge defensive error by Taddeo Lwanga.
Jude Ssemugabi had a clear chance to level matters but he instead planted the ball over the bar.
In the 74th minute, Reagan Appolis beat Kenneth Semakula on the right, but his final ball was blocked for a corner kick as the visitors kept knocking on the door.
South Africa’s custodian made a big save thwarting Bobosi Byaruhanga’s goal-bound freekick on 78 minutes.
Uganda nearly gave away another goal as Watenga made a blander in the dangerous area, but Iqraam Rayners’ effort went wide by inches.
Rogers Mato skied a powerful freekick at the edge of the box in Uganda Cranes’ final chance to restore parity.
With two minutes left on the clock, Patrick Maswanganyi doubled South Africa’s lead with a powerful header into the back of the net.
The victory takes South Africa on top of the log with 11 points as Uganda falls to the second with 10 points after five games.
