JT Lady Jaguars secured a well deserved 73-30 victory against Angels in the National Basketball League at YMCA Court, Wandegeya on Wednesday evening.
The Lady Jaguars registered their second victory in the campaign to maintain their impressive run after beating JKL Lady Dolphins on the opening day.
Mary Priscillar Nambogo’ floating jump shot concluded the first quarter as JT Lady Jaguars opened a six-point lead (16-10).
The Lady Jaguars kept the foot on the gass pedal as they extended the lead to 16 points (37-21) before the long break.
Brenda Kayaga made two long shots beyond the arc as the Lady Jaguars ran away with the stanza.
Angels where limited to only four points in the third quarter. JT Lady Jaguars extended their lead to 32 points going into the final period of the game.
It was a one way traffic in the final period as the Lady Jaguars secured a 43-point victory.
Nambogo (12 points) and Sandra Ayikoru Wangeshi (10 points) are the only Lady Janguars that managed to score in double digits.

The JT Lady Jaguars will face off against league newcomers Angels in a National Basketball League encounter at YMCA Court, Wandegeya, on Wednesday.
Despite their strong start to the season, Lady Jaguars guard Rhoda Naggita has urged her teammates to stay focused and not take their opponents lightly.
“We just need to keep playing as a team and doing what we are supposed to do,” Naggita emphasized.
“We still have to play hard as we did on Friday. I don’t think they will just hand us a win; they are here because they deserve to be.”
The Lady Jaguars come into this match with confidence, having secured a 75-71 victory over defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins last Friday.
Meanwhile, the Angels will be looking to bounce back from their 55-41 loss to the UPDF Lady Tomahawks.
Under the guidance of head coach Sudi Ulanga, the Jaguars will aim to extend their winning streak and continue their strong start to the season.
KCCA Panthers secured a hard-fought 56-53 victory over Rezlife Saints in the National Basketball League at YMCA Court in Wandegeya.
The Saints, returning to the top flight after a season in the lower division, suffered a narrow defeat in their first game back.
KCCA took an early lead, finishing the first quarter ahead by three points (15-12). They extended their advantage to seven points (28-21) by halftime.
Despite a strong third-quarter fightback from the Saints, the Panthers maintained a five-point lead heading into the final quarter.
With five minutes left in the game, KCCA held an 11-point advantage but faced a tense finish as the Saints mounted a late comeback attempt.
Rezlife Saints were led by Apugi Takpiny and Leonard Gilabi, who each scored 10 points.
For the Panthers, Stephen Otoa dominated the scoreboard with 25 points, while Ceaser Kizito added 11.
National Basketball League
The 2025 National Basketball League tipped off today as Namuwongo Blazers narrowly defeated defending champions City Oilers 81-80 in a tense and entertaining opener at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
Despite missing key players Titus Lual, Fayed Bbaale, and Ivan Muhwezi, the City Oilers put up a formidable fight, nearly securing victory.
However, a last-second free throw from Mugisha sealed a dramatic win for the Blazers, marking a tough start for the reigning champions.
The game began with City Oilers asserting early dominance closing the first quarter with a 17-10 lead.
However, Nam Blazers adjusted their strategy, implementing a full-court press and man-to-man defence that limited the Oilers to just 17 points in the second quarter. At halftime, the Blazers had closed the gap, trailing by just five points (34-29).
The intensity escalated in the third quarter, with both teams exchanging leads. Allawi Ssenkubuge delivered a crucial buzzer-beating block denying Innocent Ochera a potential game-changing three-pointer. By the end of the quarter, City Oilers clung to a narrow 55-54 advantage.
The final quarter was a rollercoaster, filled with dramatic moments, including Joseph Chuma fouling out with eight minutes remaining. The game reached a deadlock at 80-80 with just eight seconds left, setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion.
With one second on the clock, Mugisha stepped up to the line and calmly sank the decisive free throw, handing Nam Blazers a hard-fought 81-80 victory.
Key Performers
For City Oilers, Ben Komakech (18 points), Edgar Munaaba (12 points), and Joseph Chuma (10 points) led the charge while the Blazers saw Jimmy Enabu (19 points) and Peter Obleng (11 points) as their standout scorers.
In the earlier Women’s games, JT Lady Jaguars too edged an experienced JKL Dolphins side 75-71 to avenge last season’s losses in the playoffs.

JT Lady Jaguars kicked off their 2025 National Basketball League campaign in style, securing a hard-fought 75-71 victory over JKL Lady Dolphins in an intense season opener at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Friday.
The Jaguars had to dig deep to fend off a determined JKL side, with Shakira Nanvubya and Sandra Ayikoru Wangeshi stepping up as the driving forces behind their triumph.
The game began with both teams trading baskets, setting the stage for a high-energy contest. Aziida Nabayunga nailed a long shot to close the first quarter, giving the Jaguars a slim 21-19 lead.
In the second quarter, Wangeshi electrified the crowd, first sinking a deep three-pointer and then weaving through defenders for a smooth layup. Her efforts pushed the Jaguars’ advantage to eight points 4 minutes on the clock.
At the halftime buzzer, Nanvubya had a chance to stretch the lead further but missed from beyond the arc; however, the Jaguars still went into the break with a solid nine-point cushion.
JKL Lady Dolphins came out strong in the third quarter, tightening their defense and chipping away at the deficit. Their persistence paid off when Tamasha Nsubuga’s floating jumper gave them a 43-42 lead midway through the quarter.
But the Jaguars refused to back down. In a tense final quarter, both teams battled fiercely, exchanging the lead multiple times.
Nanvubya’s clutch plays and Wangeshi’s composure in key moments helped JT Jaguars maintain a four-point lead as the game wound down.
With time running out, the Jaguars held their nerve to secure the 75-71 victory, sending a strong message to the league.

Uganda’s Silverbacks qualified for a fourth straight AfroBasket.
The 16-team field for the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket including Silverbacks was confirmed following the conclusion of the qualifiers on Sunday, February 23.
Qualification Path
The qualifiers were played through three (3) tournaments at the end of which the three (3) highest-ranked teams in each group qualified for the FIBA AfroBasket 2025 finals, which will take place from 12 to 24 August 2024 in Angola.
Since Angola, the host of FIBA AfroBasket 2025, was among the top three teams in AfroBasket Qualifiers Group E, the best fourth-placed team across the five groups—based on the Official Basketball Rules— which was Uganda qualified.
Uganda finished the qualifiers with a 2-4 record through the qualifiers. The Silverbacks picked the win against Cape Verde on Friday but lost the subsequent games to Nigeria and Libya.

FIBA Afrobasket Women’s Qualifiers | Results
The Uganda Women’s National Basketball Team has secured a spot in the final of the ongoing Zone Five FIBA Afrobasket Women’s Qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt.
The Gazelles registered a well-deserved 66-30 victory against Burundi on Thursday evening at Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall.
Though the Gazelles started slowly, trailing by three points (17-14) at the end of the first quarter, they returned in the second with an improved performance, opening up an eight-point lead by halftime.
Center Mellisa Akullu led the charge, scoring eight points in the second quarter.
After halftime, Uganda dominated, extending their lead to 20 points by the end of the third quarter. Jane Nansikombi shone in this period, scoring 10 points, nine of which came from beyond the arc.
Late in the final quarter, rookies Bushira Namayanja and Modesta Anyanga entered the game and both scored.
Nansikombi (14 points), Akullu (12 points), and Paige Robinson (10 points) led Uganda’s scoring in double digits. Only Ines Nezerwa managed double digits for Burundi, scoring 10 points.
Uganda will now face hosts Egypt in the decisive final on Saturday. The winner of this highly anticipated match will secure the sole qualifying slot for the final FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament.
Uganda’s Gazelles bounced back from defeat to Egypt with a resounding 83-69 win over South Sudan at the Women’s AfroBasket Qualifiers.
Jane Asinde was the star of the show at Hassan Moustafa Hall in Cairo pouring in a tournament 28 points to go with 9 rebounds.
After a balanced start to the game that saw the sides exchange early baskets, the Gazelles started to pull away and led by 10 points (27-17) after the opening ten minutes.
South Sudan shone early in the second quarter putting Uganda under pressure as they cut the deficit to 3 points (30-27) but Shakira Nanvubya’s 3-pointer swung the momentum back to Gazelles’ favour closing out the quarter leading by 19 (50-31).
Unlike the first half, the Ugandans never allowed South Sudan to have a spark throughout the third period as Asinde, Hope Akello (12 points, 9 rebounds) and Claire Lamunu (7 points) responded to every run.
Despot playing more of a facilitator role, Paige Robinson finished with 14 points to go with 4 assists and as many rebounds.
Shakirah Nanvubya who set the tone early from beyond the arc netted 14 points and handed out 4 assists.
Meanwhile, Delica Washington who played all 40 minutes led South Sudan with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in a losing effort.
Aduk Bulgak (14 points, 8 rebounds), Rose Akon (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Pidor Teny (10 points) also scored in double figures for South Sudan.
Result: Uganda 62-65 Egypt
Uganda lost a close game to Egypt, 62-65, in a 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Qualifier at Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Egypt started strong, taking a nine-point lead (23-14) by the end of the first quarter.
Although Uganda played better in the second quarter, they still trailed by one point (32-33) at halftime.
After the break, Uganda struggled, scoring only nine points in the third quarter. Egypt capitalized, increasing their lead to five points (41-46).
Midway through the final quarter, Uganda took the lead (55-54). However, they had accumulated too many fouls, and Egypt took advantage of the free throws.
Ultimately, Egypt narrowly defeated Uganda 65-62 in front of their home crowd.
For Uganda, the top scorers were Paige Robinson (24 points), Jane Asinde (18 points), and Hope Akello (11 points).
Egypt’s leading scorers were Nadine Mohamed (19 points) and Raneem Elgedawy (20 points).
Afrobasket Qualifiers | Results
Uganda Women’s Basketball National Team, Gazelles cruised to a victory in the opening game of the 2025 FIBA Women Afrobasket Qualifiers.
The Gazelles opened up a 12-point lead (23-11) ahead of Kenya at the end of the first stanza of the game.
Despite Kenya’s strong fight they were poor on offence and went into the long break trailing by 12 points (28-40).
Coming from the long break, the Gazelles extended the lead to 20 points (57-37) as they set the momentum for the final stanza.
The Gazelles put the icing on the cake in the final period with a 22-point lead as they sealed the first victory of the campaign.
Uganda’s scoreboard was led by Jane Asinde (24 points), Paige Robinson (15 points) and Shakira Nanvubya (14 points).
They will return to action on Tuesday as they take on the hosts Egypt.
