Victoria Pearls vice captain Janet Mbabazi is elated after winning the 2022 Nepal T20I series Player of Tournament.

Mbabazi scored 103 runs and picked 5 wickets overall to help Uganda women win the series 3-2.

“A heartfelt vote of thanks to @CricketNep for organizing the women’s t20 series and hosting the Victoria Pearls,” she wrote on her social media.

“The series was eventful for both teams. I learned quite a lot and I was elated to have been selected player of the tournament. Definitely looking forward to the next series.

“Well done Nepal women national cricket team and Congratulations to the Victoria Pearls on winning the women’s T20 bilateral series in Nepal.”

Overall, Janet scored the second highest number of runs – 103, just behind Nepal’s Jyoti Pandey who scored 119.

The Germany Cricket Federation has announced 14 players who have been selected for the 2022 Kwibuka women’s T20 tournament from June 9th to 18th, 2022 in Rwanda.

National coach of the women’s national team Michael Thewlis outed a list of 14 players, with Indian-born German cardiovascular scientist Anuradha Doddaballapur captain of the side.

The ‘Golden Eagles’ will face seven other women’s national teams, the first match day – the team playing against the eleven from Nigeria. 

This is followed by games against women from Brazil, Rwanda, Tanzania, Botswana, Uganda and Kenya.

In a statement released by the Federation, the event was dubbed “an exciting challenge.”

The Uganda Women’s Cricket National team – Victoria Pearls claimed the Nepal T20I series title despite losing their last two matches at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

Nepal won by 15 runs the fourth game and 33 runs the last game to leave with a good consolation as hosts of the event.

Uganda’s all-rounder Janet Mbabazi was named Player of the Series with a total of 5 wickets and 103 runs from the five matches played.

Having won the first three matches, Uganda took home the trophy with a 3-2 score line.

In the final encounter today, Nepal’s Jyoti Pandey played her career-best knock of 49. Pandey and Rana Magar gave Nepal a partnership of 47 runs.

Pandey shared another 35-run partnership with Indu Barma before Kabita Joshi and Apsari Begam took Nepal over the 120-run mark.

It was the highest total of the series with 26 runs coming from the last two overs, Phiona Kulume taking only one wicket.

In the chase, Uganda didn’t get the greatest of starts, losing Kulume and Janet Mbabazi early in the power play.

Rita Musamali batted best on the day with 26 but fell in the 18th over leaving the rest of the job for captain Consy Aweko.

Nepal registered a huge 33-run win with Uganda managing only 90 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Arnold Otwani scored a wonderful 92 off 142 balls that anchored the innings for to help Uganda A win in their first 50 over games against the visiting Kaduna state.

The Uganda A side won the toss and elected to bat first. Emmanuel Hasahya opened the batting with Arnold Otwani with the former struggling to get going and was taken out of his struggles early on.

Otwani had everyone else playing around him with Zephaniah Arinaitwe scoring a quickfire 40 while youngster Pascal Murungi chipped in with 43. The Uganda A side managed to put 215/6 in their 50 overs.

In the defence of their total openers, Yusuf Gashone and Isaac Danladi put the opening bowlers Richard Agamire and Bilal Hassan under the pump putting on an opening stand of 45 but once the slow bowlers were introduced the wickets kept coming in clusters.

There wasn’t any other meaningful partnership as Siraje Nsubuga (5/34) and Alpesh Ramjani (3/34) wrapped up the game for the Uganda A side.

The two sides will meet again tomorrow for the final 50-over game of the series before they play four T20 games.

Uganda Cricket Association announced Cricket Cranes’ 14-man squad for the ICC Cricket Challenge League B tournament.

Uganda will be hosting Bermuda, Italy, Hong Kong, Jersey, and Kenya for the second round of the ICC Cricket Challenge League B tournament.

The tournament is a pathway for the 50-Over World Cup 2023 in India. After the first round in Oman in 2019, Uganda sits top of the table three points ahead of Hong Kong in second place.

There are 10 more games left and Uganda needs to win at least 8 of those to be guaranteed finishing top of the table. The top team at the end of the three rounds will move on to the final round of qualifiers for the World Cup.

The squad announced today is missing six players who were part of the first round in Oman.

Arnold Otwani is out of favour, Charles Waiswa, Shahzad Kamal, Bilal Hassan, Roger Mukasa, and Richard Agamire all miss out with Simon Ssesazi, Emmanuel Hasahya, Juma Miyagi, Cosmas Kyewuta, Fred Achellam, and Frank Akankwasa getting a look in.

Emmanuel Hasahya and Juma Miyagi made their debuts for the senior team on the tour to Namibia keeping their places.

The side will be captained by Brian Masaba who will be assisted by Deus Muhumuza.

Masaba was part of the side in Oman and that was his captaincy debut scoring a crucial 21 in the win over Kenya.

Uganda will start its campaign against Jersey on June 17 at Lugogo and end the tournament against Kenya on June 26 at the same ground.

Rita Musamali was the star of the show as Uganda claimed a one-wicket win against Nepal at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Tuesday.

The Victoria Pearls made it two-in-two in the five-match T20I series to set themselves in pole position of winning the series.

Opting to field first, Uganda started on a good note, removing Indu Barma and Apsari Begam to leave Nepal reeling at 29 for 2.

Bindu Rawat and Sarita Magar helped them recover, but it was skipper Rubina Chhetry’s 17 that took Nepal over the three-figure mark.

In the chase, Uganda lost Kevin Awino early, before Janet Mbabazi followed suit falling to Sita Rana Magar.

Musmali amassed 30 runs with opener Leona Babirye to take Uganda over the 50-run mark but immediately the former was run out there was a spectacular collapse.

Uganda was reduced to 98 for 9 leaving the last pair to get four runs from the final four balls.

Aweko took a single in the third delivery, Sarah Akiteng scored a double before knocking off the winning single on the ball.

The Victoria Pearls ended their 8 game losing streak with a much needed win over Nepal in the opener of the 2022 bilateral series at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

Consy Aweko registered her first win as captain with a 12-run win against the hosts despite a tough start for Leona Babirye who was castled for a first-ball duck. 

Inform Janet Mbabazi registered a great 45 runs partnership with Kevin Awino and even though fell in quick succession, Uganda was already at 48 for 3 in the 12th over.

Franklin Najjumba and Rita Musamali stabilized Uganda’s ship in the middle overs before Rita Nyangendo destroyed Nepal with 18 runs off 13 balls.

With 102 for the first innings, Nepal sought to make a good start in the chase and it indeed seemed to be going their way when the openers put on 20 runs in 4.2 overs.

Skipper Rubina Chhetry struggled while Indu Barma was stranded as wickets fell on the end. At one stage, Nepal for 49 for five and by the time Barma fell in the 19th over asking rate was too high for the home side.

In the bowling department, Uganda the whole set stood out Consy and Sarah Akiteng picking two wickets apiece.

Games resume tomorrow at 10:15am (EAT) as Uganda’s Victoria Pearls seeks another win to stamp their supremacy over Nepal.

The Uganda Women’s Cricket team has safely arrived in Nepal ahead of their bilateral series that starts from May 16 to May 21.

The team of 14 players and 4 officials departed Entebbe Airport at 8:00pm (EAT) and arrived in Nepal at 8:00pm local time aboard Fly Dubai Airline.

The Victoria Pearls will wait start their engagements tomorrow against Nepal at 10:15am (EAT) against Nepal at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

They will play five games against the home side and the games will affect international rankings as the winner will most likely rise.

Nepal Women are ranked 16th in World while Uganda slipped from 19th to 21st after the 2022 Capricorn T20 series between them, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

Nepali right-hand batter and right-arm medium bowler Indu Barma has been named Nepal women’s cricket national team vice-captain ahead of the bilateral series against Uganda.

Barma debuted in a T20 International match against China, but has also represented her country in the 2019 ICC Women’s Qualifiers Asia in Bangkok, Thailand. 

In October 2021, she was again named in Nepal’s side for the 2021 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier tournament in the United Arab Emirates.

“Indu Barma has been appointed as new vice-captain of Nepal Women’s National Cricket Team,” read a statement from Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

Between 2019-2021, Barma has faced 324 balls in WT20I and scored 260 runs, an average strike rate of 80.24 in 20 matches, with her highest score being 55 not out.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has increased remunerations for it’s central contracted players of women’s national team ahead of the five day bilateral series against Uganda.

Nepal seek to strengthen their position in 16th position after 15 games played while Uganda is in Asia after losing 6 T20I games in the Capricorn series hosted in Namibia.

According to CAN, the move to increase payments is “to motivate players” to step up against the Victoria Pearls.

“Prashant Bikram Malla and Roshan Kumar Singh, the Acting Secretary and Treasurer of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) respectively, have given their warm wishes to the Women’s National Cricket Team that will play Uganda W in the Women’s T20I series from tomorrow,” read a statement from CAN.

“As an incentive to motivate players, CAN has increased the remunerations of central contracted players of Women’s National Cricket Team.”

The Victoria Pearls begin their clashes tomorrow in the afternoon (Nepal time) with hope of stopping a 8 game losing streak.

All the games will be played at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur from May 16 to May 21.

This is the first time Nepal women will be playing an international cricket match at home ground.

Prior to this, the team had played regional cricket match during the 13th South Asian Games in 2019 in Pokhara.
