Uganda Premier League | Result

Maroons FC 1-1 SC Villa

Maroons FC and SC Villa shared spoils in a one-all draw in the Uganda Premier League on Sunday at Luzira on Sunday afternoon.

It was an end-to-end match as both sides kept in the mood to attack and look for more goals, making the game an entertaining encounter.

In the 25th minute, Fred Amaku stung SC Villa goalkeeper Norman Angfidru’s gloves with a hard shot but the custodian palmed it away.

Abasi Kyeyune and Hakim Mutebi combined to give Maroons’ defence a hard time before the latter was fouled at the edge of the box.

SC Villa was denied what could have been a penalty after Maroons goalkeeper Hannington Sebwalunyo clashed with Peter Onzima in the danger zone without the purpose of gaining possession of the ball.

Mutebi beat his marker Jacob Okao to the pace with two minutes left in the first stanza before he laid in a cut back into the area, but Sebwalunyo was quick to get hold of the ball.

In the second half, the Prison Wardens kicked off with the right pace and Abraham Tusubira continued the hosts’ attacks.

At the top of the hour, Amaku nodded home Darious Ojok’s delivery from close range to put the hosts ahead

Five minutes later, Arnold Odong was in the right place to volley the ball into the back of the net after capitalising on a loose ball in the area.

In added time, defender Jacob Okao found himself in a rare place with a goalkeeper to beat but SC Villa’s defender Rogers Kiwanuka chased him down well to claim possession.

The point takes Maroons to four points while SC Villa got their maiden point in the 2023/24 UPL campaign.

Uganda Cranes left back Mustafa Kizza has returned to KCCA Football Club for the third stint.

Kizza has been rewarded with a two-year employment contract that will keep him at the club until 2025.

He will don his favorite and signature shirt 12 which was earlier allocated to youngster Alex Yiga who has since moved abroad for trials.

In his maiden interview with the club, Kizza revealed that it’s his target to help the club go back to its glory days.

“I want to help the club to return to its glory days. The club is intent on achieving its objectives this year and I can not wait to get started with the lads,” he was quoted by the club’s official website.

“I feel happy to return home. I am happy that we made this happen. I thank the Coach, management, and everybody who has made this happen. This was a very easy decision for me to make,” he added.

Third stint at Lugogo

Kizza joined the club’s academy in 2015 and he graduated to the senior side in 2016. As part of the development scheme, he was sent on loan to Maroons where he proved he was ready for the big stage.

In January 2017, he was recalled by KCCA and the management awarded his a three-year and half-employment contract before going pro.

In the middle of the 2022/23 season, Kizza returned to Lugogo for the second stint on a six-month short-term deal before he left in July this year.

On Thursday, September 21, he made a deadline transfer deal returning to Lugogo sealing the third return of the roving left back to Lugogo.

Jinja North United came from down to register a 1-1 draw against Booma FC in the FUFA Big League at the Masindi Stadium on Thursday evening.

The game got the 2023/24 Big League campaign underway and the party kicked off in Masindi.

After capitalizing from Jinja North’s clumsy defending, Dickson Niwamanya placed the hosts in the driving seat with a delightful finish by the forward’s weak foot.

The visitors made quick attacks in search of an immediate response but Booma’s goalkeeper Aslam Muhindo Mahango was quick off the line on two occasions.

Nicholas Luzige forced Booma’s Muhindo into a reflex save as he witnessed his hard shot finger-tipped out for a corner kick.

In the 50th minute, Bronson Nsubuga leveled matters after he smashed a rebound after Salim Huud’s effort was blocked by goalkeeper Muhindo.

Vipers SC maintained their perfect start to the 2023-24 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season with the second victory in as many played games.

Vipers registered a 2-0 victory against Arua Hill SC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Thursday night.

In the seventh minute, Salem Ekbad jumped highest to meet Bright Anukani’s corner kick but his attempt went inches wide.

Moments later, Richard Enyama made a stunning save to deny Yunus Sentamu from close range. Sentamu got onto Milton Karisa’s cutback but failed to give Vipers the lead.

Livingstone Mulondo gave Vipers the lead with a powerful header that found the back of the net. The defender made a good run to perfectly connect with Ashraf Mandela’s well-weighed cross.

Abubaker Lawal got onto the scoresheet with a stunning finish. It was a team play after Anukani and Sentamu combined to see off Arua Hill in a snap-shot moment.

The second half was slower than the first as both sides struggled to match the earlier set pace.

Lawal fouled Frank Kalanda at the penalty arc and Arua Hill was awarded a free kick in a promising place. Gadafi Wahab curled it smartly but Jack Komakech was quick to palm it away.

Both sides made changes to introduce fresh legs in the park but the sloppy play hardly changed as both sides failed to take away their chances.

The victory meant Vipers took the summit of the log with six points in two games played in the 2023/24 UPL campaign.

“Amidst the wanderlust that filled my lust, there was always one truth,” the left-back started.

“No matter how far we roam, there is no place like home. For home after all is where my heart belongs,” he added.

The announcement comes hours after their arch-rivals, Vipers had announced KCCA FC graduate Allan Okello in a deal that left many wowed.

Kizza left the club in June after concluding a six-month deal where he failed to live up to expectations.

KCCA will play their first game in the league against BUL FC at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Saturday, September 23.
