2023 FUFA Junior League | Results

Vipers Junior Team edged Mbarara Soccer Academy after a 2-1 victory in the 2023 FUFA Junior League at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Monday.

Reagan Ssekisambu and Frank Ssekanjako scored for Vipers Junior Team while Uthman Kaaya scored the only goal for Mbarara Soccer Academy.

Vipers JT started off like a house on fire, they did not wait for their opponent to settle in the game as they kept them on the back foot.

In the 18th minute, Vipers JT captain Abubaker Walusimbi nearly gave his side a lead before he witnessed his powerful effort rattle off the frame.

Two minutes past half an hour mark, Vipers finally took the lead through Ssekisambu, it was a well-crafted goal as the latter left two defenders on the flow as he guided the ball into the back of the net.

Farouk Tumwesigye’s quick foot gave Mbarara SA’s defenders a lot of work to do but his trickery hardly paid off as most of his attempts went wide.

In the second stanza, both sides greatly improved their speed and pace hence giving the crowd a great meal of soccer.

Eleven minutes after recess, Kaaya’s low chilly effort went through a forest of legs before it rolled into the net.

Mbarara’s players punched the air in joy and excitement as Vipers’ troops threw their hands in the air in frustration and dismay.

In the 73rd minute, second-half substitute Ssekanjako restored the Vipers’ lead. After continuous attacks on Mbarara’s defence, they finally broke down.

On the first day of the FUFA Junior League, Vipers JT and Prosper Soccer Academy claimed victories as Mbarara Soccer Academy and Friends of Soccer were on the losing side.

Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club has organized to host Kenya outfit Kakamega Homeboyz on Friday 4th August 2023 at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

The two teams will face off in an event that has been dubbed the “KCCA FC Day” ahead of the new season.

According to KCCA FC CEO Anisha Muhoozi, “The event is a way for the club to connect with its fans and supporters.

“We want to give our fans and supporters a chance to come together and celebrate the club ahead of the 2023/24 season.

“The player unveiling event and the international friendly is an opportunity where we seek to elevate the game of football in the country.”

She added; “As icing on the cake, the combination of music and football is a catalyst to spice up the flavor to a wider community than our usual reach.”

Kakamega are Kenyan’s sole representatives in this year’s CAF Competitions.

The side will play in CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers in August and host Libya’s El Hilal in the first leg of the first preliminary round.

KCCA FC intends to use the international friendly game as a test ahead of the CAF games that start in August.

Prosper Soccer Academy registered a 2-0 victory against Friends of Soccer in the 2023 FUFA Juniors League National Finals at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

Omar Muzungu Diarra, and Yusuf Ssempeja (brace) were on target to give Prosper Soccer Academy a well-deserved lead in the opening game of the championship.

Right from the onset, Prosper Soccer Academy were the more comfortable and dangerous side of the two.

Fourteen minutes into the duel, Muzungu found the back of the net to give Prosper the well-deserved lead.

A minute later Yusuf Sempijja doubled the lead to double the lead in a blink of an eye. It was a shocker for the Friends of Soccer who were still organising themselves.

After fouling a Prosper’s player in the dangerous area, the referee pointed onto the spot thus giving them a penalty.

In the 72nd minute, Sempijja stepped up on the occasion and smartly slotted the ball to the far post to make it three.

In the 87th minute, Samuel Assimwe’s second header went past Prosper Academy’s custodian Nasser Kalulu hence giving Friends of Soccer a deserved consolation.

It was like a stone in a bee hive as Prosper Academy threw all bodies upfront to widen the scoring half but Patrick Oyuke’s late strike went narrowly wide hitting the side net.

Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC has added an Angolan duo to their roster ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The two entrants from Angola are Adilson Bruno Mfulu and Etienne Katenga extending the number of signings to six so far in the ongoing transfer window.

The 13-time UPL champions awarded Adilson and Katenga two-year employment contracts.

Katenga joins the Kasasiro Boys from Desportivo Lunda Sul where he played for the last two campaigns in the Angolan Premier League.

Before playing Desportivo, he played at Bangladesh side Uttar Baridhara after playing Saurimo FC and Cuando Cubago.

The other signing is right back Mfulu will provide more options at the backline with pace and energy.

The two have been training with KCCA as trialists and the confirmation of transfer cements that the club management has fallen in love with their services.

In an interview with the club’s media team, Mfulu expressed his excitement and joy to play for the Lugogo-based side.

“I am absolutely delighted to be joining KCCA FC. It is a huge step for me in my career, and I am really excited to get started,” he said.

“I have always admired the way KCCA FC play. They are a team that is always on the attack, and I think that is a style that suits me perfectly,” he added.

KCCA is preparing to play a practice game against Kenyan side Kakamega Homeboys on Friday, August 4 and they will announce their season squad.

FUFA has confirmed that the national finals for the 2022/23 FUFA Juniors League season will take place at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

The regional Champions will be contending for the national title after a new format of including regions was introduced.

Since its inception in 2015, the league only catered for teams in the top division and it was mandatory for a club playing in the Uganda Premier League to have a team in the FUFA Juniors League.

However, the FUFA Executive Committee spread the League across the country and now five of the eight FUFA regions are playing in the event.

The five regions had FUFA Junior Leagues include Buganda (Vipers Junior Team), Kampala (Prosper Soccer Academy), Kitara (Friend of Soccer FC), Western (Mbarara Sports Academy) and Eastern (BUL Junior Team).

According to a statement on the Federation’s website; “The aforementioned teams will play in a round-robin format between 31st July – 4th August 2023 at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

“The team with the most points will emerge as Champions.”

FUFA Drum 2023 | Results

Tooro registered a hard earned 1-0 victory against Buganda Province in the ongoing 2023 FUFA Drum on Sunday evening.

Norman Namanya scored late to guide Tooro’s heist thus running away with the sweet victory at the death of the game.

Tooro came into the game after being fined by FUFA but they put the sorrow on the side to fight and celebrate their ancestry in style.

It was a slow start but later, the game’s rhythm grew gradually.

However both sides were conscious being tight at the back hence not coming bodies upfront.

Both sides made changes in the second half to introduce new bodies on the field of play hence having new energy to fight on and on.

The moment of madness came in added time after going past the 90th minute goalless as Namanya found the back of the net to send the home fans into a party mood.

FUFA Drum 2023 | Results

West Nile Province registered a 2-1 victory against Bugisu Province in the the 2023 FUFA Drum at the Greenlight Stadium, Arua on Sunday.

In the 12th minute, Bugisu got the lead after a dominant display in the start of the game.

But four minutes later, West Nile was awarded a penalty after a foul in the dangerous area.

Junior Adama stepped up for the occasion and calmly placed the ball into the back of the net to level matters in the 17th minute.

Moments later, Cromwell Rwothomio attempted to get onto the scoresheet with an overhead kick but his effort went wide narrowly.

Two minutes after half an hour mark, Rashid Okocha swag in a darling freekick in search for Rwothomio but the effort hit the side net.

With six minutes to end the first stanza, Cromwell hit the crossbar after a second close attempt through a bicycle kick.

Geriga Atendele met Andama’s delivery but his powerful attempt went straight into the goalkeeper’s palms.

At the top of the hour, William Gama was sent off hence reducing West Nule to only 10 men on the field of play.

But in the 76th minute, Okocha was the hero of the as his sneaking second ball was well guided into the back of the net to give the hosts the lead.

Bugisu tried to bounce back into the game but West Nile’s backline was steady and firm to keep hold of their lead.

Uganda Crested Cranes and Kampala Queens striker Fazila Ikwaput is excited to shine at the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.

Ikwaput led Lady Doves to the 2021 FUFA Women’s Super League title, scoring eight goals in five games.

She now wants to put on a show when the qualifiers are played at Njeru and Kampala from August 12th.

“We are preparing well as a team and want to do better in the tournament,” Ikwaput told club media.

“Personally, I want to give the needed push to see that we go through. I have played this tournament before in 2021 [with Lady Doves] and want to do better than what I did then,” she added.

The striker joined Kampala Queens in May from Cypriot giants Omonia Women FC.

Uganda Premier League Champions Vipers SC will step up their preparations by travelling to Zambia for pre-season friendly games next week.

The Venoms according to a reliable source will feature in a pre-season tournament against Zambia giants ZESCO United, Zanaco FC and Red Arrows.

The games will be played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola starting Thursday 3rd August 2023.

Earlier this week, the Vipers were pitted against Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy at the CAF Champions League first preliminary round which they will play next month.

At the start of last season, Vipers played against Rayon Sport and Yanga Africans FC from Rwanda and Tanzania respectively in friendly games.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspection team has visited Uganda’s proposed facilities earmarked to host the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in 2027.

East Africa harbours the dream of hosting the event alongside the Governments of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania (PAMOJA bid) and this week, CAF sent a team comprised of Adam Vojtekovszk, Omar El Ghiati and Lakshmikanth Karunanithi to carry out an inspection.

The team was welcomed by FUFA 3rd Vice President Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi on Friday and toured the first site of the inspection, Mandela National Stadium.

The stadium is under renovation and the team was welcomed by FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon Thomas Tayebwa.

Tayebwa reaffirmed the government’s commitment towards offering all the support needed to have it come to reality.

“Parliament appropriates and I want to give you assurance. Any money needed, we are committed, that is why the guarantees were signed by the Executive. Parliament is fully on board and in support of this bid.” He said.

At Mandela National Stadium, Magogo reiterated the importance of the event and how it will boost the game in the region.

“I believe this is the right time for East Africa to welcome the rest of Africa to our region. I know if this bid is successful, we will have a complete turnaround of the game of football in this region,” Magogo stated.

On Saturday, the CAF inspection team visited St. Mary’s Stadium -Kitende, Denver Goodwin Stadium -Garuga and Entebbe International Airport before heading to Tanzania.
