Tooro Kingdom Masaza | Results

Mwenge South held Mwenge South in a 1-1 stalemate in the Tooro Kingdom Masaza Cup on Saturday evening.

The two sides failed to break the knot in the first clash but they will be meeting in the second leg to decide who takes the tie away.

To reach the stage, Mwenge South led Group A with four points while Mwenge North maneuvered through Group B to keep sights on the silverware.

Tooro Kingdom in partnership with MTN Uganda organised the second edition of the kingdom’s Masaza championship that has attracted immense crowds.

Each team was given UGX 500,000 for preparation while the winner will walk away with an amount of UGX 5 million.

The tournament is running line in line with the Masaza bicycle race.

Towering defender Benjamin Nyakoojo is the latest player to join Kitara Football Club, the club has confirmed.

Uganda Premier League newbies Kitara FC has awarded the defender a one-year contract that will keep him down at the Hoima-based side.

Nyakoojo joined Kitara FC as a free agent after leaving URA FC previously due to a contract termination on a mutual agreement between the two sides.

He joined URA back in the 2018/19 season and he has been a true servant for the club in the previous five seasons.

The St Mary’s Secondary School, Kitende graduate has previously played for Vipers, Masavu FC and Entebbe FC.

Nyakojo extends the number of new entrants at Kitara FC to 10.

The side has already unveiled Dennis Omedi, Jude Semugabi, Frank Zaga Tumwesigye, Kipper Luwalo, Shafik Magogo, Ibrahim Magandazi, Sabir Yassin, Samson Kasozi and Chris Kusiima.

Uganda Premier League side URA Football Club has confirmed Rodgers Omedwa as their second goalkeeper.

The lanky custodian has been awarded a two-year contract that will keep him serving the Tax collectors’ camp until 2025.

During an interview with the URA FC media, the custodian hardly hides his excitement upon the transfer.

“I am glad to be here and ready to prove my worth. I thank the club management for the trust they put in me. URA FC is a big club and playing here comes with a lot of responsibilities which am aware of,” Omedwa was quoted by the club’s website.

“I know there is a lot of competition here but I will work hard to ensure I help the club achieve its goals each time I get the chance to play,” he added

Omedwa will join the Tax Collectors from Arua Hill SC. While in Arua he played 22 games and managed to keep 12 clean sheets while in the earlier campaign, he kept 13 clean sheets in 24 games while at Busoga United.

Omedwa becomes the second custodian to join URA FC in the ongoing transfer window after the arrival of Denis Otim who arrived from Express.

The two are set to replace the club’s former captain Allionzi Nafian and Hannington Ssebwalunyo who are on their way out of the club.

URA FC is also in talks with James Alitho to agree upon a contract renewal.

CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship

Uganda registered a 3-0 victory against Zanzibar at Azam Complex in the 2023 CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship on Thursday evening.

After a 1-0 victory against Ethiopia, it was the second successive victory for Ayub Khalifa’s troops.

Brenda Munyana, Agnes Nabukenya and Captain Phiona Nabulime were on the scoresheet to give Uganda a well deserved victory.

In the first half, Uganda was limited to get sight of goal which greatly turned around in the second stanza.

Three minutes after the hour mark, Munyana finally broke the deadlock with a thrilling finish from close range.

Two minutes later, Nabukenya doubled the lead to cement Uganda’s place in the driving seat.

The team skipper Nabulime put icing on the cake as she scored the third from the spot to give Uganda the bragging rights.

The championship has five nations playing in a round robin format and the team that collects most points will walk away with the trophy.

New York Red Bulls II coach Ibrahim Sekagya has lavished praise on Ibrahim Kasule as a smart and intelligent player.

Kasule has become an instant hit in the MLS Next Pro scoring nine times in 10 successive games and is arguably the most important for the Sekagya-coached side at the moment.

In an interview with the club media, the former Uganda Cranes coach explained how he got to sign Kasule as well.

“I went back home and then saw him when he played for his team and he was a very interesting player,” started Sekagya.

“And because we’re starting to build the team, I decided to bring him here, it was good because you can see what he is doing and his developing of him until now he has been fantastic,” he added.

“I still think there is a lot he has to improve, he has to learn but for now from the way how we started, until where he is now I think has been a good journey.

Ibrahim (Kasule) is a smart and intelligent player; he understands the game and has learnt how we play and you can see how he has learnt all the things we are telling him. I think you can see he is a smart player in the team and knows how to carry the team.

Kasule who joined the American side from Wakiso Giants in January hailed his coach and staff who have improved him and pushed him to the limits.

“I got the trust from the coach (Sekagya),” he stated. “He advises you, encourages and sometimes keeps your head first and is always pushing you to work hard.”

Andrew Kawooya is in the final stages of joining Uganda Premier League side Express FC.

According to Sports Nation, Kawooya has agreed terms with Express FC and is set to sign a two-year employment contract to join the Wankulukuku-based side.

Kawooya switch from Vipers to join arch-rivals KCCA in a dramatic transfer but the attacking midfielder failed to stamp his position at the MTN Omondi Stadium.

He was later loaned out to UPDF to avail the youngster of quality playing time before he was released by the Lugogo-based side.

Kawooya had struggled to live up to the expectations having hit the scene while at St Mary’s Secondary School Kitende as one for the future.

A move to the Wankulukuku-based side will avail Kawooya with yet another rare chance to reignite his career.

To join Express FC, Kawoya will be joining from MYDA FC, a side he joined shortly after being released by KCCA.

Kawooya has previously played for the national junior sides, U17 as well as the U20.

He was part of the glorious U20 side that lost the U20 AFCON Championship final 2-1 to Ghana in Mauritania.

Uganda Premier League Champions Vipers learned of Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy being their set opponent in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

The development was learned after the draws that were held in Cairo, Egypt.

Having gone through the same route to qualify for last season’s group stages, Viper’s new head coach Leonard Neiva is positive his troops will once again get the job done.

“About the draws, we are very satisfied because, in such an international competition, you need to be ready,” Neiva told Vipers’ media.

“You have to be ready to play against any team but we are satisfied that we are going to play against Jwaneng Galaxy,” he added.

Neiva was in huge praise of the players he has found at Kitende, revealing it’s a group of talented and experienced players.

“I am satisfied and very pleased with our group. We have an experienced group of players that have played in the Champions League.”

“We also have so many players from the National team (Uganda Cranes) and also players who are young with potential. So I am sure we are going to do a good job.”

“I have not been here for long. But the last three weeks when I was not around, the team emphasized the physical part, and this week we are having a bit of the technical part.”

“Step by step, we are going to improve both the physical and tactical side of our game so that we are set for what lies ahead,” he concluded.

Vipers will have to force a way past Jwaneng Galaxy to play the victor between Djabal FC from Comoros and South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in the second round.

Uganda Cranes left back Abdul Aziz has been loaned out to Israel’s side Hapoel Tel Aviv from Leganes CD.

The 20-year-old fullback has signed a one-year loan deal with an option to extend another.

The announcement was made on the club’s official website on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

“Aziz Abdul Kayondo, left defender cum winger from Spanish side Leganes has concluded terms at the club,” a statement by Hapoel partly read.

“He will sign a contract for one season with an option for another season, subject to passing medical tests,” the statement added.

Kayondo joined Leganes B at the start of the previous campaign joining his countrymate Ibrahim Juma (who was also released previously).

In the ongoing preseason campaign, Kayondo was part of the Leganes senior side that lost to Hapoel in a friendly game.

Kayondo impressed the Israel side thus scooping him onto their team to utilize his services.

Allen Nassazi was the heroine as Uganda edged Ethiopia in a 1-0 narrow victory in the CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.

After the final whistle, Nassazi expressed her excitement to finally get off the mark before she revealed that she is hopeful to net more goals while in the national colours.

“I am so happy to score my first goal on the national team. I am hopeful that I will score goals in the coming games,” Nassazi said.

“I thank my coaches for trusting me and my teammates who worked hard to make sure that we win the game,“ she added.

Replacing Shamsa Najjuma, Nassazi came off the bench in the 63rd minute and guided the ball into the back of the net five minutes later.

Goalkeeper Sharon Kaidu started the attack with a long kick that went past the middle park to meet Nassazi, the forward beat her immediate marker to pace before she calmly scored.

The victory gave Uganda a positive start before they take on Zanzibar on Friday July 28 in their second outing.

The tournament has five countries namely Tanzania (hosts), Uganda, Zanzibar, Ethiopia and Burundi.

It is being played in a round robin format where the team having most number of points emerges as the overall winner.

Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC has signed Mauritanian forward Mohamed Salem Ekbad.

Salem joins the Venoms from Maritania League One side, FC Nouadhibou where he lifted the the league’s trophy twice in a successive manner.

The forward is a proven goal poacher who netted 11 goals in his previous season.

Salem, 25, becomes the first player from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania to sign for the six-time UPL champions.

In the striker’s role, Salem will face competition from Karim Ndugwa, Cromwell Rwothomio, Yunus Sentamu, Desire Tety, Milton Karisa and Giancarlo Lopez Rodriguez.

He brings the number of new signings at Kitende to seven.

The other arrivals are Rodriguez, Luiz Otavio, Richard Matovu, David Bagoole, Patrick Mbowa and Grant Matsiko.
