Hussein Ssenoga has joined Lugazi on a one-year employment contract in the ongoing transfer window.

The transfer has been confirmed via the club’s official website today Monday, January 20, 2025.

“We (Lugazi) announce the signing of attacking midfielder Hussein Ssenoga from Buganda regional side Free Stars FC,” the statement partly reads.

Upon putting pen on paper, Ssenoga expressed his excitement about joining Lugazi FC.

“I really feel excited and grateful to have joined this club,” Ssenoga said.

“I have worked really hard in my career to be here and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this team,” he added.

The attacking midfielder started his career in 2011scoring six goals, making two assists in 28 appearances.

He recently played for Express in 2022 and played for the Red Eagles for two years before suffering an injury.

Simba (Uganda Wildlife Authority) secured a hard-fought 3-2 win against Mbale Heroes in the Uganda Cup Round of 64 on Sunday.

Edgar Katumba opened the scoring for Simba in the 28th minute with a clinical finish, giving the home side an early advantage.

However, Mbale Heroes responded in the 40th minute when Patrick Oyet equalized, sending the crowd into a frenzy of celebrations.

Shortly after the second half began, Katumba struck again in the 48th minute, restoring Simba’s lead with a simple tap-in after Mbale’s defense failed to clear their lines.

The game remained intense as Umar Kayemba quickly equalized for Mbale Heroes just three minutes later, setting the stage for a thrilling contest.

The decisive moment came when Kenneth Ssebaduka capitalized on a rebound, firing home to seal the victory for Simba.

Simba’s victory propels them to the next stage of the Uganda Cup, leaving Mbale Heroes to reflect on missed opportunities in a pulsating encounter.

Uganda delivered a dominant performance, thrashing Namibia 8-1 in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers at Hamza Stadium, Nakivubo, on Sunday.

The emphatic win secured an 18-1 aggregate triumph, earning the Teen Cranes a spot in the next round.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Renalda Angel Tamara inadvertently turned the ball into her net.

Joan Namulindwa doubled Uganda’s lead 20 minutes later with a composed finish.

Isabella Blick added a third, tapping into an empty net just before halftime.

Head coach Sheryl Botes made three changes at the break, bringing on Dorcus Namboozo, Shadia Nabirye, and Shalom Nambuya for Nabbosa, Cynthia Kirenga, and Irene Kabarokole.

Namulindwa stole the show early in the second half, netting twice in quick succession to complete her hat trick within five minutes.

Rinah Ariho and substitute Shadia Nabirye added their names to the scoresheet, further extending Uganda’s lead.

Namibia managed a consolation goal through Shiwovanhu Haukongo, but Rashida Nakalema capped off the rout with a late strike to seal the resounding victory.

With this commanding performance, Uganda advances to face Kenya in the second round of the ongoing qualifiers.

Karadali 0-1 Police

Police FC secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Karadali in the Uganda Cup Round of 64 on Saturday evening at Orum Primary School playground.

Daniel Jakony’s lone strike proved decisive as Police advanced to the Round of 32, but not without a fight from the fifth-division Karadali side, which displayed remarkable organization and resilience.

Allan Bukenya came close to breaking the deadlock for Police but narrowly missed the target with a powerful shot.

Later, Ben Ocen squandered a golden opportunity in a one-on-one situation after being brilliantly set up by Herman Wasswa.

Despite the persistent pressure, it was Jakony who eventually broke through to secure the win for the Cops.

Police FC, who were eliminated by NEC in last season’s quarter-finals, now look to progress further in this year’s campaign.

Former Soltilo Bright Stars and Express FC coach Baker Mbowa has been appointed as the new head coach of Mbale Heroes.

Mbowa replaces Asaph Mwebaze, who was officially sacked this week following a 28-day suspension from the club over allegations of indiscipline.

Mubarak Wamboya, who served as interim coach in the last two matches – both defeats to Maroons and NEC – will not continue in the interim role. However, it remains uncertain whether he will be part of Mbowa’s coaching staff.

Mbowa’s primary task is to guide Mbale Heroes out of the relegation zone, as the team currently sits at the bottom of the table with just nine points after the first round of the season.

His first challenge as head coach will come in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, where Mbale Heroes will face Simba FC in the Round of 64 in Gayaza.

This appointment makes Mbowa the third coach to take charge of Mbale Heroes this season, following Richard Malinga, who started the campaign, and Asaph Mwebaze.

Phiona Nabbumba has signed with Danish club FC Midtjylland Kvindefodbold.

The 24-year-old Ugandan midfielder joins from the Gjensidige Kvindeliga.

“We are pleased to add Phiona Nabbumba to our talented and strong squad, as Phiona brings valuable experience from the Gjensidige Women’s League and international matches for Uganda,” said sports director, Anders Madsen. “Phiona has FCM DNA; she is willing to run, aggressive, strong in her positioning and her duelling game,” he added.

Nabbumba says that she has some experience to contribute.

“My time in the league has taught me the importance of teamwork, tactical play and having to adapt. I am excited to contribute my experience to FC Midtjylland and help the team achieve success.”

Sports director Madsen adds: “Phiona plays in central midfield and will help our team become even more compact, stronger in our pressure and ensure a good balance in transitions against us, says the sports director.”

FC Midtjylland’s clear goal is to create a team that plays at the top of Danish football, and with Nabbumba’s skills, the goal is for her to make the team even more competitive in a crucial spring to help the team secure promotion.

Uganda’s U17 Women’s National Team (Teen Cranes) performed breathtakingly, beating Namibia 10-0 in the first leg of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

In the opening round clash played at Nakivubo Stadium, Uganda’s captain Agnes Nabukenya was the star of the show, netting six goals in the one-sided encounter.

Martha Babirye, Rinah Ariho (brace), Joan Kizza Namulindwa, and substitute Isabella Blick Kabarozi completed the rout.

Nabukenya set the tone early, finding the back of the net inside six minutes with a clinical close-range finish.

Babirye doubled the lead five minutes later before Nabukenya completed her hat-trick with a couple of goals in quick succession. She added another before halftime, and Ariho made it 6-0 just before the break.

Namulindwa extended the lead to 7-0 twenty minutes into the second half before Nabukenya struck again to take her tally for the day to six goals.

Blick, who came on as a substitute, rounded off the scoring in the 80th minute with a composed finish after her header was kept out.

The return leg is scheduled for Sunday, January 19 at the same venue with the winner on aggregate to face Kenya in the second qualification phase.

New York Red Bulls II has extended Ibrahim Kasule’s stay at the club with a new two-year contract, keeping the Uganda Cranes midfielder until 2026.

Head coach Ibrahim Ssekagya expressed his excitement about continuing to work with Kasule.

“We are happy to have Kasule back with the squad. He is a talented midfielder with a great eye for goal, and we are excited to keep him at the club,” Ssekagya said.

Over the past two seasons, Kasule has been a key player for the team, featuring in 48 matches, scoring 22 goals, and providing eight assists.

Before moving to the United States for his professional career, he played for St. Lawrence University and Wakiso Giants.

Uganda Premier League side Mbale Heroes have parted ways with head coach Asaph Mwebaze.

Mbale Heroes confirmed the gaffer’s departure in a document released on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

“We wish to inform you that Mbale Heroes Football Club has mutually agreed to terminate the contract with the head coach, Asaph Mwebaze,” the document partly reads.

This comes after the club suspended the gaffer for 28 days alleging misconduct and unethical behaviour.

The development brings an end to Mwebaze’s second stint at the club. The gaffer greatly impacted the journey of Mbale Heroes’ promotion to the top tier.

According to the club’s statement, they are actively seeking a head coach as Mubarak Wamboya handles the team on interim basis.

The Uganda Cranes have discovered their group-stage opponents for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) following the official draw ceremony held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Wednesday.

Uganda has been placed in Group C, where they will compete against Niger, Guinea, and the two yet-to-be-determined teams areQ1 and Q2.

These final two spots will be decided through qualifiers involving Algeria, South Africa, Comoros, Egypt, Gambia, and Gabon.

Meanwhile, hosts Kenya have been seeded in Group A, alongside Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia.

Tanzania, on the other hand, will compete in Group B against Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic.

Defending champions Senegal will battle it out in Group D alongside Congo Brazzaville, Sudan, and Nigeria.

With the groups now set, teams will begin their preparations for what promises to be an exciting CHAN 2024 tournament that is scheduled for August 2025.
