Maroons FC head coach Mohammed Senfuma has committed to his future at Luzira, signing a three-year employment contract.

Senfuma’s former contract was meant to run out at the end of June but the two parties swiftly agreed to renew their marriage ahead of the coming season.

The development was made public on Sunday, June 25 via their official club website.

“I can not be in a better place other than Maroons,” Senfuma was quoted by the Maroons FC website.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to challenge for more, I am so pleased to be staying at the club that has given me a chance and platform to excel,” he went.

Maroons guided his troops to the sixth position in the just concluded 2022/23 campaign.

The thrilling season saw the Prison Warden post some good results against the league’s top sides hence making their home in Luzira a tough place to visit.

According to the club’s CEO, Rodrick Muhumuza revealed that Senfuma has already contributed a lot to the club and both sides only look forward to what lies ahead.

Muhumuza further noted that the club is committed to strengthening the squad by renewing the contracts of players and adding a few more so that they can compete next season.

Uganda Cranes defender Bevis Mugabi is focused on ensuring he is consistent next season with Scottish Premiership side Motherwell.

Mugabi who was sidelined due to injury for part of last season wants to make more appearances this season with a new gaffer on board in Stuart Kettlewell.

“The break seems shorter, it feels like we’ve just finished playing against Dundee United,” he told Daily Record.

“But I’m excited for myself, personally, it’s a fresh start, a clean slate, and I’m looking forward to it.

“Any game that we play in, or I play in especially, I want to do well, and make sure I’m doing my best for the team and putting in good, consistent performances to continue that into the season.”

Motherwell kick-off their competitive campaign on Saturday, July 15, with their Viaplay Cup Group G opener at League Two side Elgin City.

Bevis Mugabi is excited to train with Motherwell at their Holland training camp next week ahead of the new season.

New Coach Stuart Kettlewell took his squad to Delden for a seven-day training camp today, with two friendly matches to be played.

The first match will be against Derde Divisie side HSC Haaksbergen on Tuesday and Mugabi, 28, reckons the camp will provide a great opportunity to see what the team has in stock for next season.

He said: “I’m very excited, to be honest, excited to have a full pre-season under the new gaffer, to see what he’s got to show us and to see what our game plan is, going into the new season.

“It’s going to be a new environment, new players coming in, a new experience for all of us, and it’s one that I’m very excited for.

“Pre-season is vital, especially getting your body used to the load after our small break, and just for team bonding, especially with new signings coming in, and a lot of players that have left during the summer.

“It’s good to unite us as a group and put us in good stead for the rest of the season.

“Pre-season sets you up for the full season, as long as we keep everyone fit because you know it’s tough – some players are still coming back from injury.

“As long as we can get everybody through it successfully then we should have a good start to the season.”

Before moving to Motherwell in September 2019, Mugabi made 85 league appearances in total at Yeovil Town, scoring four goals.

He has since been at the Steelmen, amassing 488 minutes at the club during the 2022/2023 Scottish Premiership season.

FUFA President Moses Hassim Magogo has tipped former Uganda Cranes midfielder Ibrahim Sadam to have a brighter career as a coach than a player.

It’s a common phrase among the football world that former midfielders make great coaches and Magogo already has lots of hope in Sadam.

“Sadam has demonstrated to me that he will make a good coach than a player,” Magogo revealed via his Twitter account.

“I have always thought Sadam was such a brilliant player who hardly ever lived up to even 30% of his potential,” the FUFA President further revealed.

Saddam Juma is one of the graduates of the CAF C license and after his achievement, he later joined the Juventas’ Academy in Nanjing, China.

The former Vipers, KCCA and SC Villa star attributes the bold move to join coaching as one rooted from the former tactician of the Jogoo Petros Koukouras.

Magogo added that Sadam has immense knowledge of the modern game hence making him a unique person whose services are so much needed.

“There are not many football players that sportingly understand the modern game. He is just one of the few. It’s until he reached out to me for a few days ago that realised his other qualities.”

Magogo further revealed that FUFA will support and avail former players like Sadam of opportunities to grow.

The Budiope legislator’s team Kampala Queens recently announced Tonny Mawejje (a former player) as their assistant coach.

Former Uganda Cranes captain Denis Onyango is ranked one of the highest-paid footballers in South Africa.

Onyango is the most decorated South Africa Premier League player with six titles to his name also having been voted the 2016 African-based African Player of the Year at the CAF Awards held in Nigeria.

Midfielder Bongani Zungu tops the list, earning R700,000 and he is the highest-paid player at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ronwen Williams – a professional South African footballer and first-choice goalkeeper for Mamelodi Sundowns – follows suit, earning R500,000.

Onyango is third, despite the fact his contract expires soon. He is earning R450,000, having joined the club in 2014.

He has previously been affiliated with Bidvest Wits FC, Mpumalanga Black Aces, SuperSport United, Saint George and Villa FC.

Onyango made his international debut for Uganda on 18 June 2005 World Cup qualifying match against Cape Verde.

Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC has finally made public their partnership with newly promoted Wakiso Hills Women’s Football Club.

The announcement means Wakiso Hill has become Vipers’ Women team for all FUFA, CAF and FIFA engagements.

Vipers are the second team to partner to women’s team after KCCA signed a pact with FUFA Women Super League champions Kampala Queens.

Both clubs will maintain their intellectual property rights and brand images but collaborate in areas of technical development, club infrasture and marketing.

Wakiso Hills also known as ‘The Antelopes‘ gained promotion to the womens’ top-tier league after finishing second in the FUFA Women Elite League.

It was founded in 2010 and among the clubs that were part of the maiden Women’s league in 2015.

It’s no secret anymore that midfielder David Bagoole will be making a return to Vipers ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Bagoole left Vipers at the end of the 2021-22 after a tough time that saw him go AWOL.

However MTN Sports understands, the midfielder has put a pen on paper to commit to his stay at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende for the next two years.

According to a source close to the player, Bagoole was clear to his agent letting him know that it’s only Vipers that he wanted to play for next season.

“After a fair campaign with Jinja North, Bagoole attracted a number of teams across the region but the player wanted Vipers more,” a source said.

“Bagoole’s camp nearly sealed deals with Sofapaka of Kenya and BUL but the priority was given to his former side. He believes there is unfinished business to handle,” the source continued.

“The deal to Sofapaka had more money but that did not change Bagoole’s mind because he was so sure about what he wanted hence sealing the shocking move.”

Last season, Vipers SC won a double lifting both the league title and the Uganda Cup so it will be seeking for a slot in the CAF Champions League groups on a bounce.

Jackson Magera returns to MTN Omondi Stadium as the first-team coach of the KCCA FC senior men’s team.

The former SC Villa gaffer returns to a club where he worked under Mike Hillary Mutebi for two and a half seasons before he showed the exit door.

In the previous season, he proved his worth after guiding SC Villa to the third position on the 15-team log with a squad that was largely made up of youthful players, top-tier debutants and a few senior players.

However next season, the assignment will be doing all it takes to see that KCCA FC end the trophy drought that has been on since the departure of Mutebi.

Magera will work under head coach Sergio Traguil and his assistant Luis Manuel Correira.

Another foreign coach Eduardo Lazaro Ramon Leiva will further beef up the technical team in the role of Strength and Conditioning.

The goalkeeping coach remains Moses Oloya, Felix Ayobo is maintained as the club’s fitness coach while Saka Mpiima has been confirmed as the Junior team’s head coach.

Ivan Ssewanyana will maintain the position of team doctor working with Emmanuel Tusuubira as the club’s physiotherapist.

Edward Kizza didn’t get a breakthrough in Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC’s draw against Oakland Roots but his contribution has been lauded by raters.

Kizza played the goalless draw as Riverhounds SC continued its impressive league unbeaten streak to eight matches and extended its clean sheet string to four contests.

He was replaced by Langston Blackstock in the 79th and the comments made about his performance were; “there wasn’t much there for Kizza to connect with in the final third, with one chance created but no shots.”

“He worked hard to get seven recoveries, with 35 touches often playing it back to the wide guys or the central MFs.”

Edward Kizza is in his second season with Riverhounds SC in 2023. He signed a permanent deal with the team in the offseason after first arriving on a loan move from MLS’ New England Revolution on July 12, 2022.

The Hounds will return home on Saturday, for the beginning of three consecutive home matches, beginning with a first-ever meeting against San Diego Loyal SC.

William Kyeswa has signed a three-year employment contract to extend his stay at Lugazi FC.

The development was brought to public knowledge through the club’s official website on Tuesday at night.

Kyeswa joined Lugazi FC in the middle of the campaign on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, after putting pen on paper for a short-term deal that ended at the climax of the campaign.

Kyeswa guided the team to finish sixth on a 16-teamed log. After guiding them to 11 wins, seven draws and suffering six losses in the 24 games under his reign.

The club chairperson, Eng. Abdul Kawuulu Mwajje expressed his trust in the gaffer Kyeswa noting that under his stewardship Lugazi FC will meet its set target.

“Our coach (Kyeswa) has been with us for the last eight months. We have seen his potential and believe that he can help us achieve the set goal,” Kawuulu was quoted by the club’s website.

“I take this opportunity to congratulate you coach (Kyeswa) on this milestone. We are passionate and we want the best out of our squad. I promise to offer the necessary support so that you effectively perform your duty.”

In the same breath, Kyeswa revealed that he is ready to implement his philosophy into the team so that it gets to greater heights.

“Depending on the club’s vision, we shall be in a position to achieve what is ahead of us being that the club wants a promotion,” he said.

“If we work together as a club am sure that we shall achieve a lot. My objective as a coach is to implement my philosophy so that we win but in a beautiful manner.”

Last season, Lugazi finished 17 points away from the summit and the tactician believes it lays a superb foundation ahead of next season.
