St. Henry’s Kitovu 2-1 St. Mary’s Kitende

St. Henry’s Kitovu ended St Mary’s Kitende’s perfect in the ongoing 2023 USSSA Games in Fort Portal.

Kitende fell to SHACK in a 2-0 loss which ended their splendid run having won five previous games without conceding a goal.

In the 18th minute, Lawrence Walakira rose highest and nodded home to give Kitovua a narrow lead.

Later on, Kitovu were reduced to ten men after Collins Ochatre was given marching orders.

From that note, Kitende was the better side as they came knocking on Kitovu’s door but the backline was up to the task.

In the 55th minute, Hakim Mutebi levelled matters thus restoring Kitende’s hope.

In the dying minutes, Alfred Ejoyi found the back of the net to give Kitovu maximum points as well as give the crowd a reason to get on top of their voices.

The victory took Kitovu to the top of the log with 16 points while Kitende drop into the second slot with 15 points.

Kitovu will take on Tororo Town College while Kitende will lock horns with Nakaseke International.

Group A Results

Defending Champions St Noa Girls are a step away from defending their title after storming the finals of the ongoing Secondary School Games in Mbarara City.

In a game played at Kakyeka Stadium, St Noa registered a 2-0 win over Rines SS to book a slot in the finals.

Rebecca Nyakake’s brace was enough to see the Zanna-based side go past a sprinted Rines SS.

Nyakake was in the right place to give St Noa a lead after Rines custodian Bridget Yuko Babirye fumbled with the ball in the dangerous area.

In the 52nd minute, Nyakake punished Rines’ defence after they went sleeping on the job.

St Noa will play in the finals against the winner between Mukono Parents and Amus College.

Quarterfinals Results

Amus College ended Kawempe Muslim’s journey in the ongoing Ball Games 2 in the quarterfinals.

The worst reach by the Valley Warriors has always been the semifinal exit that came in 2018.

Last year’s runners-up were held by Amus in normal time to play to a 1-1 stalemate before they were shocked in the deciding penalties.

Hadijah Nandago gave Kawempe the lead with a calm effort from 12 yards at the start of the first half.

Ten minutes later, Amus thought the matters were levelled but the centre referee cut short their joy after citing an infringement on the custodian Saidat Namwajje.

But at the death, Amus found a well-deserved equaliser to take the tight duel to penalties.

The penalties were tight but interesting as each side missed once in the first five.

Later, they went on to miss thrice before Halima Kampi hit her effort wide and Amus scored.

The victory set up a semifinal lineup where Amus will face Mukono Parents High School while Rines SS will play St Noa Girls SS.

Kawempe Muslim secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Ball Games 2 in Mbarara.

In an entertaining duel played at Kakyeka Stadium, Kawempe beat Shuuku Vocational School 2-0 to continue with their perfect run.

As early as the ninth minute, Agnes Nabukenya gave the Valley Warriors the deserved narrow lead.

In the 18th minute, Hadijah Nandago doubled the lead to place Kawempe in the driving seat.

They had several chances to extend the lead but were so wasteful in the game they would stretch the edge.

“I am so grateful and thankful to Allah who has enabled us to win this game and go to the quarterfinals,” Nandago said after the final whistle.

“Hopefully we go further because we are much prepared for the games going forward. We wasted a number of chances today and I hope we shall put up a better show in our next game,” she added.

On the other hand, Shuuku captain Shabela Abahora was glad for the journey moved and choose to pick positives that will help them in the next tournament.

“It’s sad that our journey has come to an end but there are a number of positives that will help us in next year’s tournament,” Abahora said.

“This is the first time the team has reached the round of 16. We are young girls and I am sure we shall go back and prepare so that we come back stronger,” she noted.

Vipers SC have moved to the Uganda Premier League summit after playing to a goalless draw against Onduparaka FC at the Greenlight Stadium on Friday.

The Venoms yet again failed to pick a victory after losing to Bright Stars in their previous league game.

In the 12th minute, Vipers had a chance to take the lead after Isa Mubiru laid a teasing ball into the area but Yunus Sentamu failed to burry the chance from close.

Six minutes later, Abubakar Lawal squared the ball beating Onduparaka’s backline only for Watambala to sky the remains of the attack.

Lawal yet again set up Karim Ndugwa who failed to tap the ball home.

Five minutes past the hour mark, Fabien Mutombora was the saviour palming away Emmanuel Oketch’s strong but curling effort.

Abdul Lumala thought he had finally broken the deadlock with a sweet effort but Norman Angifindru punched the ball with a full-stretch save.

Onduparaka remained bottom with 16 points after playing 25 games.

Elsewhere, Vianne Ssekajugo placed the Tax Collectors ahead before Ivan Ahimbisibwe levelled matters in the 1-1 draw against UPDF.

While Wakiso Giants and Busoga United fired blanks in a close contest played at Kakindu Stadium, Jinja on Friday evening.

KCCA FC seeks to bounce after falling to Vipers SC in a 1-0 loss.

The Lugogo-based side will visit old rivals Express FC in a game they badly want to win.

KCCA are third on the log with 45 points, two behind-log leaders Vipers and SC Villa, gathered in 24 games.

A win in the clash will take them to the summit and a statement would also take them about the Jogoo.

“We badly need the win against Express. When two elephants meet on a battleground, it’s energy and confidence that creates the edge,” Charles Nsanziro said in the presser ahead of the Kampala derby.

“We need to forget our previous game and get our sight on the future. We have prepared well and want to put it into action so that we pick the maximum points,” he added.

The Kasasiro Boys have picked only a point in the last two games. Nsaziro has underlined that the duel against the old rival is a must-win if they are to keep their chances of winning the title bright.

“Getting back to winning ways will get us back on the right path going forward. We are in a crucial time with our eyes on the title and that means we have no room for error.”

“I am so thankful to all the fans who have stood beside us. We love them and call them to keep by our side. The 12th man is always important because he creates a conducive environment for football to be played,” he concluded.

KCCA will as well miss the services of Tshisungu Kakonde who was slapped with a fine keeping him out of action for the next eight games.

They will also have to wait for a report from the sick bay weighing the fitness levels of both Mustapha Kizza and Domic Ayela who have been part of the training amidst suffering knocks previously.

Ugandan forward Edward Kizza has been credited for his high “work rate and ground pressing” as he got another opportunity to represent Pittsburg Riverhounds SC in the U.S. Open Cup.

Riverhounds SC edged New England Revolution 1-0 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA, to advance to the Fifth Round of the Cup.

The Hounds outplayed New England for most of the match, despite conceding the possession battle (62/38), as a recent returnee to the club and New England native Danny Griffin made a run behind the Revs backline in the 44th minute to score the game’s lone goal.

Kizza was however lauded as well despite being substituted in the 79th minute for Albert Dikwa, a striker on the team.

In the game’s ratings released by Pittsburg Soccer Now, Kizza was awarded 5, marked with comments “continues to bring the work rate — covered a lot of ground pressing. Had two shots.”

Kizza permanently moved to the Hounds on 13 January 2023 after featuring on loan for the club for part of the 2022 season.

The Hounds will now advance to the Round of 16, where they will find out who they’ll play either on Tuesday, May 23 or Wednesday, May 24, when US Soccer re-draws for the final time in the tournament most likely to take place on Thursday.

FUFA Competitions Disciplinary Panel has fined Denis Iguma for comments he made on social media concerning the integrity of the game in Uganda.
Iguma was weighing in on the game in the aftermath of KCCA FC’s 1-0 loss to arch-rivals Vipers SC at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on May 8, 2023, just three days after the tie.
The KCCA player tweeted, “Feel great to play for the best team in Uganda. Strong team with great players. No bribing. No betting but real football,” which caused him problems.
According to a statement released by FUFA, Iguma breached Article 31 of the FUFA Competitions Rules.
He is therefore fined UGX 500,000 for the use of “improper comments posted on his social media account insinuating match manipulation at clubs but without supporting facts.”
The statement further read, “Iguma will not be allowed to feature for his club in any FUFA-organised Competition until the fine is cleared. The player has also been warned of his future conduct.”
This is not the first time Iguma is paying a fine. In November last year, FUFA through its Competitions Disciplinary Panel slapped him with sanctions.

The development came from an incident that happened in the game between UPDF FC and KCCA FC played in Bombo where the defender was sent off for head-butting UPDF midfielder Ibrahim Magandazi.

Whereas referee Rajab Bakasambe showed marching orders to Iguma, the Disciplinary panel found it necessary to add more sanctions.

Iguma was punished to serve an extra game and also pay a fine of UGX 500,000.

Kitara Football Club has been promoted to the 2023/24 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The Hoima-based team confirmed their return to top-flight football after defeating a 3-0 win away to already relegated Adjumani Town Council at Paridi Stadium.

Kitara first gained promotion during the 2020/21 season but got relegated in the same campaign.

Goals from Paul Mucureezi, George Ssenkaaba and Paddy Muhumuza ensured the Royals collected maximum points and consequently gained promotion.

Kitara came into today’s game needing just victory from the final two games to secure promotion.

Mucureezi who had scored in the previous two games opened the scores two minutes after the half-hour mark with a well-curled free kick.

Ssenkaaba doubled the visitor’s advantage just after the break thanks to a good assist from Mucureezi.

Veteran midfielder Muhumuza put the game beyond Adjumani’s reach with a header in the 66th minute off Moses Sseruyidde’s free kick.

The win takes Kitara to 58 points and will need to defeat Kaaro Karungi at home in the final game of the season to clinch the FUFA Big League title.
