Scottish national Stephen Pritchard has been named head coach of Lions Football Club, now playing as Ahamwaro FC in the Western regional league (fourth division).

The Ntungamo-based club made the announcement that gives the CAF C Diploma holder the opportunity to serve football once again in the Western part of the country.

“I am happy for this opportunity to work with Lions (Ahamwaro Football Club). I will give my best as expected for the team, players, management and the fans” he noted.

Pritchard comes with enough experience having worked for a couple of Ugandan teams as Mbale Heroes (as Kiboga Young), Sun City, Kigezi Home Boyz, King Jesus College (Mubuku), SCB Academy (Technical Advisor) and lately the head coach at Rwenzori province in the FUFA Drum competition.

A former player in Scotland, Pritchard also served as a referee in the Hull premier semi-professional league before coaching the Hull ladies in the top-flight division.

He holds a degree in community development and youth work from Bradford Technical College at Hull University in the United Kingdom.

KCCA FC striker Brian Kayanja has joined Maroons FC on loan until the end of the season.

The forward who has struggled to get playing time at MTN-Omondi will seek a fresh opportunity in Luzira.

He becomes the second signing the Prison Warders have confirmed on deadline day, joining Abel Eturude who returns to Maroons also on a sixth-month deal.

Kayanja performed relatively well while at Soltilo Bright Stars before moving to Sofapaka in Kenya two years ago.

Upon his return to Uganda, he joined UPDF FC in 2021 and played there for a season before joining KCCA at the start of the 2021/22 season.

At KCCA, Kayanja has failed to command playing time, being down in the pecking order with Brian Aheebwa, Charles Lwanga and Muhammad Shaban.

Eight players who were part of the Uganda U-20 (Hippos) squad in the Cecafa Zonal Qualifiers will miss the Afcon U-20 finals due in Egypt next month.

Ibrahim Kasinde and Abasi Kyeyune lead the cast of players who are dropped from the initial 50-man squad preparing for the final tournament that gets underway in Egypt on February 19.

It’s reported that Kasinde who was a key member of the team in Sudan is injured although there was no official communiqué in regards to the injury.

Others are URA goalkeeper Denis Ssendyowa, Wakiso Giants’ exciting midfielder Marvin Nyanzi and BUL’s Allan Kiggundu.

Left-back Simon Ssemayange also misses out through injury while Muhammad Nsereko then at SC Villa was never summoned.

Thomas Kakaire is the other player that was part of the qualifiers but dropped from the squad currently camped at Paradise Hotel, Kisasi.

Meanwhile, Andrew Kawooya and Ivan Asaba alias Di Maria have also been left out.

On a lighter note, Travis Mutyaba (SC Villa) and Titus Ssematimba (Wakiso Giants) who were part of the Uganda Cranes CHAN team in Algeria have joined the team.

However, Ibrahim Juma (Spain), Faisal Wabyona, Allan Enyou (Dubai), Ismail Mugulusi (Greece), Oscar Mawa (Italy), Ivan Irinimbabazi (on trials in Scotland) and Christian Mulindwa (Scotland) are yet to join camp.

Lugazi Football Club has signed a number of players in preparation for the second half of the 2022-2023 season.

The Umar entity duo of Muhinzi Mbusa and Kayemba are joined by Fadil Marijan, Alex Kitutu, Derrick Ochen and KCCA reserve team player Anthony Emojong (goalkeeper).

Muhinzi penned a two-year deal with the FUFA Big League (second division) side.

The striker has been previously employed by Mbarara City having also played for Kasese New Villa and Mbale Garage in the Eastern regional league.

The former Hands of Grace – Lugazi player also featured for Buweekula and Kyaggwe Ssaza teams.

He is expected to partner with Gerald “Mwenda” Ogweti in the hunt for the much-needed goals in the second round of the FUFA Big League.

Other signings:

Umar Kayemba joins from rivals Lugazi Municipal having also played at Kajjansi United.

Kitutu and Ochen from Kira United, Fadil Marijan and goalkeeper Anthony Emojong has been at the KCCA reserve team.

Marijan previously played at Risah High School – Lugazi (now defunct), St Mary’s Kitende and BUL FC in the Uganda Premier League.

Sussex Senior Cup 2023 (Round of 16):

Bognor Regis Town recovered from a goal down to eliminate Eastbourne Borough 6-2 in the Sussex senior cup (round of 16) away at Eastbourne Borough on Tuesday, 31st January 2023.

Nathan Odokonyero and Sam De St Croix scored a brace and hat trick apiece respectively for Bognor Regis Town.

Alfie Bridgman scored the other goal for the Rocks. Miquel Scarlett and Fletcher Holman got the two consolation goals for Eastbourne Borough.

The hosts took an early lead inside the opening 60 seconds through Scarlett who beat the goalkeeper Llyod Thomas off Holman’s cross.

Bognor Regis Town executed an early change when Dan Gifford replaced the injured Matt Paterson in the 22nd minute.

St Croix levelled matters three minutes off the half-hour mark thanks to a great combination from Walter Figueria and Bridgman as the half-time ended 1-all.

The visitors bossed the game through Alfie Bridgman’s 53rd-minute goal before St Croix extended the lead 14 minutes later for his brace.

Lethal forward Nathan Odokonyero came onto the scoresheet with 11 minutes to play.

St Croix sealed his hat trick with a well-drilled penalty in the 81st minute after Isaac Olaniyan was illegally pulled down in the forbidden area.

Odokonyero got his brace in the 85th minute after being set up by Joe Briffa.

The goal galore continued with Eastbourne Borough’s second consolation goal in the 88th minute from Fletcher Holman.

Bognor Regis Town qualified for the quarter-finals of the Sussex Senior Cup and will host either Bexhill United or Eastbourne Town in the next round.

The MTN Odilo Ker Football tournament in the Acholi sub-region is heading to the semifinals.

The tournament that started two weeks ago had eight teams from eight districts that fall in the Acholi chiefdom, and three teams have qualified for the semifinals with one more to be decided between Pader District and Gulu City.

Lamwo District and Amuru District ended 1-1 in the match they played on Sunday with Amuru progressing into the semifinals having won the first leg 1-0.

Agago and Nwoya’s match also ended 1-1 with Nwoya qualifying for the semifinals having beaten its rival in the first leg.

Similarly, Gulu District and Omoro District ended 1-1, with Gulu District progressing to the semifinals having registered a 3:1 win in the first leg.

Meanwhile, Pader District will play Gulu City at Pajule Primary School playground in Pajule Town Council in Pader District tomorrow. Gulu City beat Pader District 3-1 in the opening leg.

The finals will be played in Gulu City on 12th March.

Robert Okello, the team coach of Gulu District expressed his happiness about the win against Omoro District. saying that The Odilo Ker Football Tournament shall help to source talent among the youth in the Acholi sub-region as well as promote unity in the Ker Kwaro Acholi. He thanked MTN for their support of the game such as Jersey among others.

The football tournament themed “Together we can end teenage pregnancy in Acholi sub-region” is in line with the ongoing partnership signed in 2019 but delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

MTN Uganda Northern Region Business Manager, Phillip Odoi, said they are excited to sponsor the football tournament in the Ker Kwaro Acholi aimed at strengthening the social-economic status of the population.

MTN Uganda and the people of Ker Kwaro Acholi have had a cordial relationship over the years that was only amplified with the signing of a partnership agreement in 2019.

The agreement entails MTN Uganda working together with the Ker Kwaro leadership to support the Chiefdom’s efforts to uplift the socio-cultural welfare of the people in the Acholi sub-region through jointly undertaking health, education and sports initiatives.

MTN Uganda has undertaken numerous initiatives in health and education in the Acholi sub-region in the past such as the refurbishment and kitting of Cwero Health Center III Maternity Ward as well as constructing a classroom block Kuc Ki Gen PEAS High School in Lamwo among other projects.

Ugandan left-back Ibrahim Juma made his debut at Spanish side CD Leganes B on Sunday, January 29, 2023.

Head coach Sergio Solis named the former KCCA and Uganda U-17 player left back, in the starting eleven against the Real Madrid junior team.

Real Madrid Junior team won the contest 4-1 at the I.D Butarque stadium during a Group 5 duel in the division of Honor.

On 17th January 2023, CD Leganes Cantera y Escuela officially announced the signing of Juma who is comfortable as a left back and centre half.

Juma was excited at starting his first official club game, saying; “I am happy to start my debut today.”

CD Leganes B has now played 14 games that have resulted in eight victories, 3 draws and losses apiece.

Uganda Cup holders BUL FC kicked off their title defence by knocking out Sparks FC on Monday in a round of 64 fixture played at Kirondo Playground in Mukono.

BUL had to dig deep to overcome the resilient hosts thanks to defender Hillary Onek. He scored the lone goal of the game, coming at the start of the second half.

Onek made a good run on the right wing to tap home a well-weighted cross from Douglas Muganga.

BUL FC won the Uganda Cup last year, defeating Vipers SC in Masindi.

The Jinja-based side will now wait for the round of 32 draws to know their next opponent.

Travis Mutyaba and Titus Ssematimba have joined the Uganda Hippos camp as the team prepares for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The duo that was part of the Uganda Cranes team at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria, trained with the Hippos on Monday at Lugogo.

A couple of players were released including goalkeeper Denis Ssenyondwa Kaala of Bushenyi Veterans, defenders Sula Mpanga (Maroons), Jimmy Ndalambi (Blacks Power) and Cyrus Kibande (Terranova).

Allan Kiggundu (BUL), Faizo Kyazze (Manyangwa), Hakim Mutebi (St Mary’s Kitende), Owen Mukisa (BUL) are the midfielders that have been let go by coach Jackson Mayanja while dropped forwards include Ivan Asaba (Vipers), Ibrahim Kasinde (Bright Stars), Abas (Kyeyune), Emmanuel Mukisa (Kataka), Simeo Ssevime (Rubaga) and Thomas Kakaire (Unattached).

Ibrahim Juma left for Leganes and made his debut on Sunday, Simon Ssemayange (Bright Stars) got ruled out by an injury while Ivan Irinimbabazi (Bright Stars) left for trials with Scottish side Dundee United.

Foreign-based players Allan Enyou (Elite Falcon – Dubai), Isma Mugulusi (Makedonikos, Greece), Christian Mulindwa (Rangers) and Oscar Mawa (Italy) are yet to arrive in camp.

The Hippos are preparing for the AFCON U20 tournament that will take place from 19th February to 11th March 2023 in Egypt.

Mayanja’s charges are pitted in Group B along Congo Brazzaville, the Central African Republic and South Sudan.

URA Football Club has loaned winger Joachim Ojera to Rwandese top-flight side Rayon Sports for a season.

“We would like to announce that our right winger Joackiam Ojera has joined Rwanda Premier League side Rayon Sports FC on loan for a period of five months until end of the season after both parties reaching an agreement,” reads a statement from URA FC.

Ojera thus becomes the first player in URA’s history to join a foreign club on loan.

The pacy winger was out of favour in the first half of the season with playing time coming in the just concluded FUFA Drum that was won by the West Nile.

At Rayon Sport, he joins another Ugandan player, Musa Esenu who joined the side last year from Bul FC.

Ojera finds Rayon Sports in second place with 31 points from 16 games this season and they are just two points behind leaders AS Kigali.

Their next assignment will be an away game to 8th-placed Mukura and Ojera will most likely mark his debut.
