Uganda Hippos got their AFCON U20 Qualification campaign off to a good start after a deserved 2-0 win over Tanzania.

First-half goals from Titus Ssematimba and Rogers Mugisha were enough for the Hippos at All Hilal Stadium in Khartoum, Sudan.

Ssematimba, a midfielder at Wakiso Giants, bundled in a rebound after his initial header was blocked by a defender in the 31st minute.

And four minutes later, Mugisha doubled the lead with a sweeping finish off a low cross from the right by Ibrahim Kasinde.

The victory puts the Uganda Hippos all but through to the semis, with a game to spare, out of the three-team Group B.

They face Ethiopia next week on 5th November in their remaining Group B game.

The semifinals will be played on 8th November while the final is scheduled for 11th November.

Group A has Djibouti, Burundi, South Sudan, and Sudan. The top two teams in each group qualify for the semis where the finalists will book slots in the AFCON U20 final tournament next year in Egypt.

Uganda Martyrs Women Football Club humiliated UCU Lady Cardinals in the Fufa Women’s Super League match played on Saturday Morning.

UCU paid for their lackluster performance at St. Gerald’s Stadium, Lubaga as the Mukono-based side was defeated 4-1.

Kevin Nakacwa, Latifa Nakasi, Catherine Nagadya, and Sumaya Nalumu were on target for Uganda Martyrs to victory.

Ashiat Naluggwa who has had a good start to the season took her tally to five goals with the consolation for UCU Lady Cardinals.

It was the second successive loss for the 2018 Champions who also lost 1-0 at home to Kampala Queens last weekend.

Nakacwa fired the hosts into the lead two minutes after the hour mark with a well-taken free-kick before Nakasi doubled the advantage with a header at the stroke of halftime.

Naluggwa converted a penalty eight minutes into the second stanza to give the visitors hope of a comeback.

However, the hope was later vanquished with skipper Nagadya scoring the third before substitute Nalumu put the icing on the cake.

Victory takes Uganda Martyrs to second place on 13 points, two behind leaders Kampala Queens who play Olila High School on Sunday in Njeru.

UCU Lady Cardinals on the other hand drop to third place on 10 points from six games.

Lady Doves held defending Champions She Corporate to a 1-1 draw in Nakawa. Evelyn Nandera scored for Lady Doves before Joanita Ainembabazi found the equalizer.

Kawempe Muslim were also held to a one-all draw in Kisasi by Asubo Gafford Ladies. Shakira Nyinagahirwa scored for Kawempe while Madina Nakayi got the equalizer for the hosts.

Rines SS registered their first win of the season, stunning Makerere University 2-1. Yasmeen Nalukwago and Phiona Arachi scored for Rines while Josephine Ndagire who was returning from suspension got the consolation for She MAK.

Maroons Football Club edged KCCA Football Club one-nil in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played at Luzira Prions Ground.

Fred Amaku’s 63rd-minute strike was the difference in a game that was watched by a big crowd.

However, it was KCCA that had the chance to break the deadlock in the 32nd minute but Tshisungu Kankonde missed a penalty.

Kankonde had earlier come close with a freekick.

After the halftime break, Charles Lwanga, Brian Aheebwa, and Julius Poloto replaced Rogers Mato, Kankonde, and Moses Waiswa.

But it was Maroons who found the back of the net through Fred Amaku in the 63rd minute and held on for maximum points.

Express Football Club picked their first away win in the 2022-23 season with a 2-1 victory over Onduparaka FC on Friday afternoon at Bombo Military Barracks Grounds.

Forward Marvin Oshaba and midfielder Daniel Shabene scored for the Red Eagles while Emmanuel Oketch converted a penalty for the home side.

Kayiwa’s goal in the fourteenth minute off Akandwanaho’s pass but was chalked off for offside. Mukwano Gw’abangi kept pressing for an opener and it arrived in the 35th minute. when Kayiwa played through Oshaba who beat his marker and was left with a keeper to beat chance which he converted.

“I am happy to have scored a goal on my first full-time debut, hopefully, if given more chances I can score more. It was a tough game but we have shown a winning character and now we are focusing on the next game,” Oshaba said after the game.

After the break, the Express upped the temple creating more opportunities for goals with more shots at goal from Kayiwa and Akandwanaho.

In the 88th minute, Kayiwa pressed Onduparaka’s Ndifuna forcing him to lose the ball for a counterattack from the Red Eagles. Daniel Shabene converted from Shafic Ssebyala’s pass to double the lead.

It was Amaku who broke the deadlock in the 65th minute and the hosts when on to defend resiliently even when KCCA FC threw the kitchen sink at them.

The result lifts Maroons to 3rd place on 8 points while KCCA FC drops to 8th place on 6 points.

Striker Patrick Kaddu extended his scoring display in the FUFA Big League, by netting twice as Kitara FC defeated Jinja North United on Thursday at Kigaya Primary School Playground in Hoima City.

The Uganda Cranes striker scored a goal in both halves as Kitara registered a 3-1 over the Jinja-based outfit.

The visitors had taken an early lead through Dickson Matata who opened the scores as early as the 4th minute.

Kaddu was able to draw the game level in the 34th minute, converting from the spot.

The former KCCA FC striker put Kitara FC ahead a minute after recess with his customary header taking his goal tally to seven in just three games.

He later turned provider, setting up Edson Agondeze for Kitara’s third.

Victory takes them to second place on seven points, just two behind leaders NEC FC who defeated Ndejje University 2-1 in Bombo.

The two teams will return to action on Thursday next week with Kitara visiting Lugazi FC while Jinja North United will be at home to Luweero United FC.

Former KCCA FC forward Sadat Anaku returned to the fray as Dundee United B’s cinch Reserve League cup campaign continued against Dunfermline Athletic on matchday two of the competition.

Anaku was included in the starting XI and he almost started with a bang in the first two minutes when an opening for him was created but failed to divert his header on target.

The Ugandan again got clear when he was offered a delicate pass over the opposition’s backline by Archie Meekison.

He tried his luck again from an acute angle after getting the better of Miller Fenton but his effort flashed across the face of Max Little’s goal.

Edward Kizza was a three-time hero as he helped Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC defeat Birmingham Legion FC 8-7 in a shootout after the teams had played to a 2-2 final in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals of the 2022 USL Championship Playoffs.

The 23-year-old Ugandan professional scored the decisive goal in the 10th round of a penalty shootout to add to a two-goal performance after coming on as a late second-half substitute.

Prosper Kasim put Birmingham Legion FC ahead in the 72nd minute but just 38 seconds after coming on, Kizza delivered a 90th-minute equalizer.

Birmingham regained its advantage in the 99th minute when Mikey Lopez found Bruno Lapa for a first-time shot but with four minutes to go in extra time, Kizza again tapped home from close range to send the game to extra time.

The teams then went to penalty kicks, and Kizza scored the winning tally in the 10th round.

Toby Sims, Danny Griffin, Albert Dikwa, Marc Ybarra, Arturo Ordonez, Angelo Kelly and Jelani Peters also scored in the 10-round shootout.

Jahmali Waite made three stops in the shootout, in addition to seven saves during regulation and overtime, to secure the victory for the Hounds.

Kizza has joined Pittsburgh Riverhounds Sports Club, on loan from the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer (MSL).

He was New England Revolution’s first-round pick (24th overall) in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft and signed with the team after a successful three-year career at the University of Pittsburgh during which he scored 31 goals in 53 games.

This season, Kizza began the year in the USL Championship on loan with Memphis 901 FC, where he played 111 minutes across eight appearances before begin recalled by New England.
