Uganda Cranes coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has described Tonny Mawejje as a loyal servant of Ugandan football and called upon all Ugandans to show him, love, by attending his two testimonial games.

Micho who has already named the team to face the Mawejje All-Star team comprised of the Uganda Cranes Class of 2017 that ended a long wait for an AFCON appearance says the midfielder was amazing.

“He was an amazing and incredible player to work with. We love to see this next generation becoming men among boys, I love to follow players from their humble beginnings and Tonny Mawejje was one of those from his days with Masaka LC FC. “

Micho coached Mawejje and also played against him as an opponent while he coached SC Villa and Rwanda.

“I remember the CECAFA of 2011 Tonny Mawejje along with Musa Mudde, it was a very difficult task to play against them,” he stated.

“As a person, I first met him in 2002 with Villa playing Masaka in the Kakungulu cup semis before defeating Express FC in the Finals. He was young then but gave us a big challenge.

“I called Tonny Mawejje my player in 2013-2017 AFCON championships where I came to see a real team leader, he helped young players who came into that squad to develop and one was Khalid Aucho and mostly their time with Hassan Wasswa, they formed one of the best midfield partnerships ever protecting the back four well.”

The Serbian wished Mawejje all the best in retirement and says he must stay in football service because the nation still needs him.

“Dear Tonny Mawejje, you have been a soldierly servant of Ugandan football, May the Almighty protect you everywhere you go and I would love to see you joining football administration for your brain on the sport.”

The midfielder who has played for KCCA, Police, and URA in Uganda as well as stints in South Africa, Iceland, Albania, and Qatar will take the proceeds from the two games into setting up an academy.

Kampala Queens has acquired the services of winger Elizabeth Nakigozi from Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga.

She was unveiled as a new Kampala Queens player after being instrumental for Uganda Martyrs last season, finishing as the club’s top scorer with seven goals.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Nakigozi Elizabeth from Uganda Martyrs LFC,” reads a statement from the club’s social media platforms.

Before joining the School side, she had previously featured for UCU Lady Cardinals, Muteesa I Royal University, and Lady Doves FC.

Nakigozi becomes the sixth signing for Kampala Queens ahead of the new season. The others include goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro, Grace Aluka, Sumaya Komuntale, Teddy Najjuma, and Asia Nakibuuka.

Kampala Queens will begin the new season at home to newcomers Asubo Gafford Ladies on Sunday, 18th September 2022.

Vipers Sports Club left-back Isa Mubiru has expressed delight at having scored his first goal scored at the Kitende-based franchise.

Mubiru, a fresh signing by the Venoms from UPDF was among the scorers during a memorable 3-0 win against Central African Republic side Olympique Real de Bangui in Congo Brazzaville at the Alphonse Massamba Debat Stadium.

Abdul Lumala and Najib Yiga got the other goals for Roberto “Robertinho” Oliveira’s coached side.

Mubiru eyes more impressive displays with consistent delivery.

“The goal is a push factor to double my effort as a player through training, continuous teamwork mentality and better performances match after match,” the former St Mary’s SS Kitende student added.

Vipers will host the return leg on Saturday, September 2022 at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in Wakiso District.

Uganda U-23 international Sadam Masereka scored and assisted as his side Lindsey Wilson College drew 3-all with the reigning national champions Keiser.

Monwabisi Mngqibisa, Masereka and Bienfait Ishimwe scored for Lindsey Wilson College.

However, Adrian Camacho, Lucas Jacobs, and Rui Reis all replied with goals for the Seahawks.

Lindsey Wilson took the early lead with Mngqibisa’s opener in the 6th minute off Masereka’s assist.

Three minutes later, Camacho leveled the matters for Keiser before Masereka restored their lead at the quarter-hour mark.

Moments before the break, Rui Reis assisted Lucas for Keiser’s second goal heading to the mandatory halftime recess.

Rui put Keiser ahead for the first time in the game but the joy was short-lived as Bienfait tapped home the equalizer in the 64th minute.

This Monday, 12th September 2022, Lindsey Wilson College faces Lyon University in Columbia at the newly named Ray Wells field Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

Coach Milutin Sredojevic aka Micho has named the Uganda Cranes squad composed of U23 players to feature in the Tonny Mawejje testimonial matches.

The squad of 35 includes six foreign-based players that will take part in the Mawejje testimonial matches will be played this week on Wednesday and Friday in Lugogo and Masaka respectively.

The two games are in honour of former Uganda Cranes midfielder Mawejje who has decided to retire from football.

He featured for the national team between 2004-2018 making 84 appearances and scoring 8 goals.

“The six foreign-based players and four players from Vipers SC will not be available for the testimonial matches but instead will join us on Sunday as we travel to Libya,” Micho told the federation website.

The players include goalkeeper Giosue Bellagambi from Huddersfield Town FC, Abdul Azizi Kayondo, Musa Ramathan, Steven Sserwadda, Derrick Kakooza, and Sadat Anaku.

The Vipers players on the other hand are Hillary Mukundane, Abdu Karim Watambala, Bright Anukani, and Najib Yiga.

The games are meant to prepare the Uganda U23 team that will take on Guinea in the U23 AFCON Qualifiers that serve as the gateway to the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

Defender Jamilah Nabulime has joined Kampala Queens Women Football Club on a three-year deal.

The 23-year-old christened “Jamie Otto” in the football fraternity has been featuring for Fort Portal-based Tooro Queens where she served for two seasons.

She had previously played at Rines Women’s football club having studied at Rines Secondary school for her O and A-Level education studies.

Nabulime joins the group of newly recruited players at Kampala Queens as left back Sumaya Komuntale, Aisa Nakibuuka and Grace Aluka.

Like Komuntale, Nabulime is yet another Tooro Queens player joining the free-spending Kampala Queens.

Kampala Queens has been also rumored to be in close contact with the management of Crested Cranes reliable player Hasfa Nassuna.

The new season for the women’s football league is earmarked for late September 2022.

Kampala Queens will open against Garford Ladies. She Corporate is the reigning champion in the FUFA Women’s super league.

Vipers SC captain, Halid Lwaliwa has signed for the North Macedonian side, FK Bregalnica Stip.

Lwaliwa leaves St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende after eight successful seasons with the senior team.

The center-back joined the Vipers SC senior team in 2013 but due to school commitments, he didn’t feature in any match that season.

He returned a year later to make two appearances during the 2014/15 Uganda Premier League campaign, his debut against Soana FC in a one-all draw at Buikwe.

Overall, he won the Uganda Premier League in each of 2014/15, 2017/18, 2019/20, and 2021/22 Uganda Premier League campaigns.

Lwaliwa also won the Uganda Super Cup and the Pilsner Super Cup in 2015 and 2019.

Milton Karisa has been named as the new Vipers Sports Club captain, MTN Sports can confirm.

The forward ascended to the role from Halid Lwaliwa according to a statement released by the club website.

Karisa becomes the first team captain for the first time, taking over from Lwaliwa who came after Taddeo Lwanga, Nicholas Wadada, and Farouk Miya.

Karisa, who joined us from BUL FC in the second round of the 2016/17 football season, is pleased to take the reigns.

“The gaffer insinuated that he was going to trust me with the role and it’s an absolute privilege to be handed the armband full time,” explained Karisa.

“I did it on a few occasions during Pre-Season when Lwaliwa, was out, but as I said, it’s a real privilege to be the club’s captain for real.”

Milton made his debut for the Uganda national team against Kenya in a 1–1 friendly draw at Machakos Stadium on 23 March 2017.

 

Express Football Club has announced the signing of Allan Kayiwa.

The midfielder who has been a free agent since playing out his contract at Vipers Sports club joins the Red Eagles on a season-long deal.

Before joining Express, it was reported that Kayiwa had attracted interest from local sides KCCA FC, URA FC, Gaddafi FC.

The former Tooro United winger is expected to bolster the club’s offensive department ahead of the forthcoming season.

“I am happy to be joining Express FC, I already feel at home. The environment is good and all players and staff have been good to me, I believe with Express FC I am going to be able to archive big things and help the club win,” he said as quoted by the club website.

Kayiwa joins the cast of new signings at the club as Marvin Oshaba, Anwar Ntege, Yusuf Ssozi, and Derrick Ngoobi.

Andrew Kaggwa, Hamim Semakula, Farouk Katongole, Joseph Dhata, Benjamin Gakumba and Kada Bitakizibwa are the new additions at Wankulukuku.

Vipers Sports Club have confirmed striker Yunus Ssentamu is not part of the team that has travelled for CAF Champions League duty due this weekend.

The Venoms named a squad of 19 players that travelled to Kigali, Rwanda on Thursday morning where they will have a sleepover before connecting to Congo Brazzaville.

It should be noted that Bangui who are from Central African Republic will host their continental matches at Stade Alphonse Massamba Debat.

According to a statement released on the club website, Ssetamu is still recovering from a bout of malaria and thus could not make the trip.

“Yunus Ssentamu who has been out for a week and still recovering from malaria misses out,” reads the statement.

Meanwhile, new signings Cromwell Rwothomio, Abdu Lumala, Olivier Osomba and Abdul Lawal among others have made the trip.

The return leg for this contest will be played on 17th September at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende with the winner on aggregate facing TP Mazembe in the next round.
