Former Uganda Cranes captain Denis Onyango has welcomed the arrival of Ronwen Williams to bolster the Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeping department.

Ronwen joins from Super Sport United and Onyango has fond memories of playing in the team with him before joining the Masandawana.

Onyango previously worked with Williams at Matsatsantsa a Pitori, as Sundowns’ cross-town rivals are known.

“I worked a little with Ronwen when he was still on the development side [at SuperSport]. We were very good friends. It’s quite interesting that he’s joined us,” Onyango told City Press during the launch of the new PSL season.

“He’s a quality keeper who’s doing well for the club and national team.

“It’s always good to have quality around you to work and fight for the same position – it’s never easy, but the harder you work, the more you improve.

“We hope that we’ll add something to his game, as he’s Bafana’s No 1 and captain. We also hope that he’ll learn something from us.

“We’re there to help and learn from each other. It’s going to be tough for him, but that will make him a better keeper.

“We’ll always support anyone who plays and that person must give their best, because they’re representing those who aren’t on the pitch,” added Onyango.
