Former KCCA FC defender Ramathan Musa made his debut for Major League Soccer Next Pro side FC Cincinnati 2 on Saturday.

Even the outfit lost fell at home to Orlando City B 3-1, it was a good day for the Ugandan as he played and unfortunately got cautioned in the 60th minute.

The visitors scored two goals in the first 30 minutes, but Allan Cruz pulled one back for FCC 2 in the 37’ with a rocket from the top of the box. Orlando would add a third in the 85’.

Musa joined from KCCA FC on a season long loan. He grew up at Uganda Premier league side KCCA FC and was part of the outfit that won the 2019 Cecafa Kagame Cup back under former coach Mike Mutebi.

FC Cincinnati 2 return to action next Saturday, July 2 to take on New York City FC II.

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) president Moses Magogo has trashed claims that Uganda Cranes coach Milutin Micho Sredojević had been given an ultimatum or be sacked for the team’s recent performances.

Magogo was appearing on main stream media where he clarified the situation in which many though Micho was an immediate candidate for the sack.

Uganda Cranes have not won any of their AFCON qualification games this year, drawing at home to Niger 1-1 and losing to Algeria 2-0 away.

Magogo told NBS Sports; “We have not given an ultimatum to Micho. We all know that a coach needs time to deliver results.

“For a coach to deliver results, sincerely speaking, we need to give them time.”

Micho is in his second stint having agreed a 3 year deal on 27 July 2021 as the new Head Coach of the Uganda national football team.

BUL Football Club announced the signing of Frank Kalanda on a two-year renewable contract until June 2024.

The workaholic forward became the first signing for the Eastern Giants who won the 2021-22 Uganda Cup and is excited by the move.

“Being part of the biggest clubs in Busoga and Uganda at large is exciting.

“I am so thankful for this opportunity given by the club and the coach – Alex Isabirye; and I am willing to work with the entire technical team, management, teammates, and fans altogether,” Kalanda told the club website.

Kalanda rose to prominence during the qualifiers for CHAN 2014 when he netted a brace for Uganda Cranes against Tanzania in a 3-1 win.

The former Express, URA, Tooro United, Police, and AS Kigali forward has vowed to repay the faith in him with goals.

“Putting up good performances is all I target in my quest to score lots of goals that will help the team achieve more success.”

2022 Masaza Cup opening match:

Buddu 0-0 Mawogola

The 2022 Buganda Masaza Cup football tournament officially kicked off on Saturday, 25th June 2022 at the Masaka Recreational Stadium.

Defending champions Buddu and rivals Mawogola shared spoils after the encounter between the two ended all square, goal-less after 90 minutes.

Mawogola’s Alex “Harzad” Mutebi asked all sort of questions to the Buddu backline but they could barely get a breakthrough.

Buddu’s chance came in the second half when forward John Vianney Bukenya scooped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper Ibrahim Wukasha into the net but the effort was ruled out for offside.

His Majesty the King of Buganda Kingdom, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II graced this match as by the norms and customs.

The tournament will be held over a period of 3 months where 18 counties will compete for the 2022 Championship which will be climaxed in September 2022.

Final

St. Lawrence University Beach Soccer Club claimed the FUFA Beach Soccer League title after defeating Buganda Royal in the final on Sunday.

The University side outplayed Buganda Royal 9-5 in a thrilling final played at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru to win the title for the second successive year and their fourth in history.

To reach the final, St. Lawrence brushed aside MUBS, winning 6-1 thanks to goals from Baker Lukooya, Joanathan Kikonyogo, Allan Katwe, Joshua Lubwama, Brian Nkuubi and Rica Byaruhanga.  MUBS go their consolation through Isma Kawawulo.

In the other semifinal, Buganda Royal negotiated past KIU winning 7-3. Ambrose Kigozi and Paul Lule came through with a brace apiece befofe Hassan Luboyera, Ronald Magwali and Ibrahim Ssekanoni added a goal each.

For KIU their goals came from Nigerian forward Isaac Eshioke (brace) and an own goal by Hassan Luboyera.

Wakiso Giants Football Club has announced the appointment of John Luyinda as their new head coach for the next two years.

Ayala, as he is popularly known, replaces Alex Gitta who served in an interim capacity last season after the firing of Douglas Bamweyana.

Wakiso Giants is delighted to announce the appointment of John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda as the new Head Coach of the first team on a two-year contract from next season until June 2024 with an option to extend for a further year.

At least 1500 students from different schools of Uganda were involved during the 2022 Olympic Day celebrations.

Mbogo High School hosted the various schools as Mbogo High School, Kinawa High, Mbogo Mixed School, Mariam High School, Ebenezer Primary School, Broadway High School, Oxford High School, Mbogo College and Central College Kawempe.

The day’s theme was “Together for a peaceful world”.

As early as 7 AM, the students from the different schools gathered at Mbogo High School ahead of the first aerobics session.

This was followed by the run, officially flagged off by International Olympic Committee (IOC) member William Blick.

Moments after the run, there was a general aerobic session conducted by the Gymnastics gurus.

The session was then followed by Dancesport showcase, Modern Pentathlon, Archery, Teqball and Badminton.

Chief guest Hajjati Shifrah Lukwago, the commissioner of Human Rights Commission of Uganda lauded the students for cooperation as she praised the organizers for the spirit upon which the Olympic Day is celebrated.

Assistant General Secretary, Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) Lydia Gloria Dhamuzungu read the message of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) president, Thomas Bach.

Dhamuzungu emphasized the value of sports as a means of bridging solidarity as she advised the schools to create spirit clubs.

Along with the theme of this year “Together for a peaceful world”, the Olympic day reawakens the rebirth of modern Olympics. This is through uniting people beyond ethnicity.

The special guest on the day was Alex Odwori, the deputy director District Youth Agency for Development, State House.

Odwori called for empowerment of the youth through sorts.

The initiative to develop talents through sports is welcome. Uganda as a country is openly also calling for the promotion of sports through the theme-line “Securing our future”. We encourage the development of talents for children.

Simon Peter Komakech, the chairperson, Sport for Social Development commission at Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) was key in the entire organization on the day.

Olympic Day certificates were given to the different participating schools.

For starters, the Olympic Day is celebrated on 23 June every year.

The Olympic Day is celebrated all around the world: hundreds of thousands of people – young and old – participate in sports activities, such as runs, exhibitions, music and educational seminars.

Over the last two decades, the event has helped to spread the Olympic ideals to every corner of the world. 

Symbolic anniversary

Olympic Day was introduced in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on 23 June 1894 at the Sorbonne in Paris.

The goal was to promote participation in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability.

A growing, global gathering

Over the last 20 years Olympic Day has been associated with Olympic Day Runs all over the world.

From 45 participating National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in the first edition in 1987, the numbers have grown to over 150 participating NOCs.

Olympic Day is nowadays developing into much more than just a sports event.

Based on the three pillars “move”, “learn” and “discover”, National Olympic Committees are deploying sports, cultural and educational activities.

Some countries have incorporated the event into the school curriculum and, in recent years, many NOCs have added concerts and exhibitions to the celebration.

Murushid Jjuuko and Godfrey Lwesibawa have reportedly joined Gadaffi Football Club.

The duo who were key during Express’ run to the title a couple of seasons ago follow coach Wasswa Bbosa who they worlded with at Wankulukuku.

Bbosa wants to assemble a title-challenging squad at Gaddafi and he looks at the duo as a starting point to building the squad.

Juuko joined Express at the start of the 2020-21 season after ending his contract with Botola Pro side Wydad Casablanca. He had stints with Bunamwaya (now Vipers), defunct Victoria University FC, and Tanzanian giants Simba SC.

His experience includes two Africa Cup of Nations finals appearances with Uganda Cranes – 2017 (Gabon) and 2019 (Egypt).

Lwesibawa on the other hand, leaves Express, a side he joined in August 2020. He also played at SC Villa and Tooro United.

Gaddafi FC is also said to be in advanced talks to finalize another Express player in John Byamukama.

Uganda Premier League side SC Villa have confirmed the departure of Greek coach Petros Koukouras.

The Jogoos confirmed his exit in a press statement signed by club President Hajji Omar Ahmed Mandela.

“Sports Club Villa has today amicably parted ways with its Head Coach, Petros Koukouras..,” read the statement in parts.

Petros leaves with our sincerest appreciation for steering the Club through a very tough season and the Club wishes him well in his next endeavors.

SC Villa under the Greek finished 12th in the Premier League last season with 33 points and were eliminated from the Uganda Cup in the quarter finals by eventual winners BUL FC.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed five Ugandan officials for roles during the forthcoming Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The news was revealed football governing body FUFA in a statement on their website ahead of the tournament due July 2nd to 23rd.

“FUFA Events Manager Leila Nankya and Esther Musoke have been appointed as protocol and marketing officers respectively,” it read.

“Jamil Ssewanyana has been assigned as a CAF Safety and Security officer.

“Renown journalist Usher Komugisha will be an Editor-English while Shamirah Nabadda is one of the 16 centre referees who will officiate at the tournament.”

Uganda is in Group A with hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso and Senegal. This will be the second edition Uganda will be featuring in after the 2000 edition.
