Vipers Sports Club stretched their lead at the top of the table to 9 points following a comfortable 3-0 win over URA at the Arena of Visions on Tuesday.

Goals from skipper Halid Lwaliwa as well as strikers Ceaser Manzoki and Yunus Sentamu ensured that the Venoms picked maximum points on the road.

Vipers took the lead in the 27th minute through Lwaliwa, who bundled home after Manzoki headed Bobosi Byaruhanga’s corner his way.

Manzoki would, later on, double his side’s lead, scoring from the spot after Yunus Ssentamu was fouled in the area by Hudu Mulikyi. It was Manzoki’s 13th goal of the season.

Benjamin Nyakoojo and Cromwell Rwothomio missed a couple of chances as the tax collectors trailed at the break.

URA dominated the early stages of the second half but it was Vipers celebrating again as Ssentamu put the game to bed when he raced on to Milton Karisa’s header and rounded Nafian Alionzi to score in an empty net.

The win takes Vipers to 55 points from 23 games and are now nine points clear of second-placed KCCA FC who were held to a goalless draw on Monday.

URA remains third with 43 points, twelve behind Vipers.

KCCA FC missed a chance to close the gap on Vipers after being held to a goalless draw by Arua Hill at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Despite being dominant in possession, KCCA did not create any clear-cut chances to open up a resilient Arua Hill defence anchored by Rashid Toha.

Sadat Anaku and Brian Aheebwa had a couple of chances for the hosts but were never troubling.

The best chance of the first half fell to Rashid Kawawa, with the Kongoro forward’s effort rattling the crossbar.

In the second half, substitutes Davis Kasirye and Charles Lwanga came close for the Kasasiro. Kasirye headed over from close range while Lwanga had a few half chances.

Alfred Leku had the best chance for Arua Hill in the second half but shot just wide after turning his marker.

KCCA has won just once in the last five games and stays second with 46 points, six behind Vipers who visit URA on Tuesday at the Arena of Visions in Ndejje.

Express Football Club came from a goal down to beat SC Villa 2-1 in the Startimes Uganda Premier League at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

Isaac Ogwang put the Joogos in the lead inside six minutes when he rose highest to node home Nicholas Kabonge’s free-kick.

Ten minutes later defender Amir Kakomo helped the Red Eagles draw level when he put the ball in the back of his own net off Enock Ssebagala’s cross following a quick corber from Martin Kizza.

Express keeper Crispus Kusiima was twice called into action to deny Joseph Kafumbe and Benson Muhindo and at the other end, Ivan Mayanja blasted over the bar from close range.

The visitors then took the lead through Eric Kambale who scored at the stroke of halftime after a good interplay with Mayanja as the Red Eagles claimed a halftime lead in a game they largely dominated.

Ssebagala and Kizza had opportunities to put the game to bed but their efforts went wide while SC Villa’s Saddam Juma was denied by Kusiima.

SC Vill sits 12th with 25 points whereas Express FC moves fifth on the log with 39 points.

The draws for the quarterfinals of the 2021-22 Stanbic Uganda Cup have been conducted at Fufa House in Mengo.

The biggest match of the round is between defending champions Vipers Sports Club and Wakiso Giants Football Club at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.

SC Villa will take on BUL in the other all-Premier League affair at the Fufa Technical Center in Njeru.

Mbarara City will host Regional League side Mbale Heroes at Kakyeka while Boma FC will play host to Big League Maroons in Masindi.

The quarterfinal matches will be played between 23rd -27th April 2022.

Quarterfinal Draw

KCCA Football Club returned to winning ways in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a convincing 3-0 victory over UPDF at Bombo.

Sadat Anaku broke the deadlock after a quarter an hour of play when he got at the end of Denis Iguma’s inviting ball to set the tone for what turned out to be an easy day out for the Kasasiro.

The hosts who had an off day saw Ivan Ahimbisibwe miss from the spot, a glorious chance to level matters before the interval.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Okello Donato scored into his own net before Substitute Brian Aheebwa capped the win with nine minutes to play.

KCCA temporarily reduced the gap between them and leaders Vipers to four points but the Venoms restored the seven-point lead later on with a two-nil win over Mbarara City at Kitende.

UPDF remains 9th on the 16-team table with 27 points from 24 games.

Uganda Cranes defender Bevis Mugabi was central in aiding his Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell in claiming victory over St Mirren on Saturday.

The win gave a lifeline to Motherwell’s top six hopes, one that ended an 11-game wait for a league win in 2022.

The Steelmen recovered from 1-0 down to earn a first league win since Boxing Day and score four goals in a game for the first time this season.

Bevis Mugabi, Sean Goss, and Callum Slattery all came into the side to replace Juhani Ojala, Jake Carroll and Liam Donnelly.

Mugabi had been out because he was on duty with Uganda Cranes during the Navruz Cup as they knocked out Tajikistan 5-4 on penalties following a one all draw in normal time on at Navbahor Stadium.

Eamonn Brophy put the visitors in front but two goals in a minute from Sean Goss and Connor Shields turned the game.

St Mirren’s Conor McCarthy leveled before Dean Cornelius regained the lead for the Steelmen; Shields’ second clinching the win.

UCU Lady Cardinals suffered a setback in the FUFA Women Super League as they fell to Uganda Martyrs Women’s Football Club on Sunday in Lubaga.

Catherine Nagadya scored the only goal of the match in the 89th minute to give Uganda Martyrs all points in a closely contested encounter that had limited scoring opportunities.

Latifa Nakasi headed against the upright while Brenda Munyana failed to put away a couple of chances that Lubaga created.

The win means Uganda Martyrs moved to 4th place with 13 points. The side still has two games in hand – against Kawempe Muslim and Rhines – to complete the first round.

The defeat leaves UCU who bearly created anything during the game third on the log with 14 points, seven behind leaders She Corporate.

The other two games played on the day ended in draws. Kawempe Muslim Ladies were held to a goalless draw at home by Olila High School WFC while She Maroons rallied to earn a point off Tooro Queens in a one-all draw.

The quarterfinal list of the 2021-22 Stanbic Uganda Cup is complete after SC Villa knocked out Onduparaka.

The Joogos edged the Caterpillars one-nil on Sunday thanks to Benson Muhindo’s first-half strike at the Greenlight Stadium.

Muhammad Shaban and Gabriel Matata came close for Onduparaka in the first half but were both denied by the crossbar.

In the second half, Emmanuel Oketch missed from close range as SC Villa held on to progress.

The result is a repeat of last year when they eliminated Onduparaka with the same score at the same round.

Kataka FC have ascended to the summit of the FUFA Big League table after overcoming Calvary FC on Thursday at Mbale Municipal Stadium.

Calvary FC were on the end of frustration after they were denied entrance to the stadium an hour to the game.

Kataka FC won 3-2 to boost their chances of earning promotion after Francis Odongo fired Kataka FC into the lead in the 33rd minute.

The visitors levelled matters at the stroke of halftime through Elias Paul Onyu and further went on to grab the lead after the hour mark when Julius Choka found space to slot home.

Derrick Onyai scored the second goal for Kataka to restore parity before Hassan Wandenga found the winner five minutes to fulltime.

Kataka FC moved to the top with 32 points from 17 games same as Maroons FC who won 4-0 against Kitara FC in Luzira.

Nyamityobora Football Club failed to turn up for their against Blacks Power FC on Thursday at the Akibua Stadium in Lira City.

The Mbarara based side were supposed to travel to Lira and face Blacks Power on matchday 18 of the FUFA Big League but did not honour the fixture.

Nyamityobora got relegated to the third division on matchday 17 after losing 3-1 to Ndejje University FC.

The outfit has since struggled to re-organize themselves off the field. Three years ago, the Abanyakare were playing in the top tier League (Uganda Premier League) but poor management has compounded their fortunes.

Blacks Power will await the decision from FUFA Competitions Committee on the outcome of this fixture.

Should they be awarded three points as presumed, the Lira based outfit will have a shot in the arm towards their dream of getting promoted.

Currently, Blacks Power FC have 31 points same as Kyetume FC who were not in action on Thursday.

Kataka FC and Maroons FC ascended to the summit of the league table after winning against Calvary FC and Kitara FC respectively.

Kataka FC defeated Calvary 3-2 at Mbale Municipal Stadium to move to 32 points same as Maroons FC who won 4-0 in Luzira.
