Bob Oluoch has joined Vipers on a three-year deal.

The centre back who has been kept from playing for the Venoms because of paperwork has received the clearance.

“I’m here to win. I have come home to offer my European experience. We have to fight to be champions because Vipers SC is all about trophies.” Olouch told club media.

Oluoch, a graduate of St. Mary’s Kitende, has been plying his trade in Sweden since 2014 after playing for KJT (Rwenshama) in the Uganda Premier League.

He has featured for Swedish sides Ludvika FK, Ljungby IF and Växjö United.

Uganda U20 Women’s National Team captain Fauzia Najjemba has completed a move to Kazakhstan Women Championship outfit BIIK Kazygurt.

The forward signed a two-year deal to join the Kazakh Champions after a two season stint with Kampala Queens.

She becomes the second Ugandan to play for BIIK Kazygurt with Fazila Ikwaput being the first in 2018.

Najjemba finished as the 2021 top scorer for Uganda at the CECAFA U20 Women’s Championship with eleven goals in five games.

She was also named the FUFA Female footballer of the year.

Express FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa has been sacked, MTN Sports can confirm.

The tactician was relieved of his duties according to a statement released by the club on Monday, February 14.

The statement read; “Express FC would like to confirm that Wasswa Bbosa is leaving his role as head coach with immediate effect.

“The club would like to thank Wasswa Bbosa for his dedication and memories, most notable of those include winning the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (2020/2021) for the first time in 12 years and the CECAFA Kagame Cup, the first ever in the club’s history.

“Express FC wish Wasswa Bbosa the best of luck in his future engagements.

“The club also confirms that assistant coach James Odoch will take over in interim capacity until the end of the current season and will be assisted by goalkeeper coach Daniel Kiwanuka.”

He was sacked after the club amassed 29 points from 17 games. Express are 10 points off the top of the log, Vipers with 12 wins.

Uganda Cranes defender Bevis Mugabi was once again instrumental in Motherwell’s progress to the Scottish Cup quarter finals on Sunday.

The 26-year old assisted the club’s second goal as they dispatched Aberdeen 2-1 from behind to dump them out of the tournament.

Mugabi got his body in the way first, Connor Shields arrived to power the ball home from near in moments before half time.

Christian Ramires had headed the visitors in an early lead but Kevin van Veen levelled with 10 minutes left to play.

The performance accrued 4.18 average points as Man of the Match from observers even though Van Veen claimed the gong.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) alongside the Uganda Premier League (UPL) have formally endorsed MTN Uganda as the Official Broadcast Sponsor of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Sanyuka TV.

In a move intended to complement the great strides the governing bodies, FUFA and UPL, have made in promoting and growing Ugandan football over the years, under this two-year partnership, MTN Uganda has committed to contribute some UGX 600 million as support to clubs in the league through the MTN Fans Awards that will reward performing players, coaches, and clubs throughout the league season. Additionally, depending on table rankings, all clubs will also receive a token financial reward at the end of the season.

The two-year partnership which will see MTN Uganda spend UGX 300M per year, with part of the money shared by clubs as prize money at the end of the StarTimes UPL season was announced today in a joint press conference hosted by FUFA, UPL, and MTN at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala today.

Fans Activations

To complement the TV live broadcasts, MTN together with Sanyuka TV will activate live viewer parks in different locations especially in Kampala for the public to watch the games and in the process win various prizes through on-ground activations.

The partnership will also see bigger MTN brand presence on match days through activations such as “Ekituuti”, where fans will share their opinions of games live on TV, and the “MTN Fans’ Corner” where fans interact with players and coaches.

Under the MTN Fans Awards, fans will choose players and coaches of the month and season. There will also be cash prizes for outstanding players in every match.

The live match broadcasts and activations will also be extended onto partner radio stations including Radio 4, Akaboozi, Buddu FM, and Star FM, plus on MTN social media pages.

The cash prizes for the MTN Fans player of the match, player and coach of the month, as well as the Fans Player, Coach and Club of the season, plus the cash contributions to all the SUPL clubs at the end of the season will be announced in due course here on www.sports.mtn.co.ug.

Uganda’s FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup dream came to an end following a 5-0 defeat to Ghana on Saturday in the return leg of the fourth round of the African Qualifiers at the Cape Coast Stadium.

The result took Ghana’s aggregate score to 7-1, having won the first leg 2-1 at St. Mary’s Stadium – Kitende last month.

Doris Boaduwa netted a brace while Evelyn Badu, Abdulai Salamatu, and Rahama Jafara scored a goal each for Ghana who will meet Ethiopia at the ultimate stage.

Uganda took charge of the opening 20 minutes but could capitalize as later Ghana found their rhythm and dominated the match.

Shamira Nalugya saw her freekick at the edge of the box rattle the woodwork while Juliet Nalukenge also came close.

In the 23rd minute, the hosts took the lead through Badu who slid with a tap in the opener. In a space of two minutes, unmarked Abdulai doubled the lead off Doris Boaduwaa brilliant pass.

Daphine Nyayenga, who was between the sticks for Uganda, came to rescue for the visitors when she denied yet an unmarked Abdulai. Nyayenga, however, made a howler under pressure from Boaduwaa but she was denied by the woodwork.

After the break,  Nalukenge was denied by the crossbar while Shakirah Nyinagahirwa forced a save from Cynthia Konlan in Ghana’s goal.

Jafaru made it three for Ghana before a quick brace from Boaduwaa one which came from the spot following Bira Nadunga’s handball in the forbidden area.

Arua Hill Sports Club edged Police Football Club 2-0 at the Barifa Stadium in Arua City on Saturday, February 5.

Rashid Kawawa and debutant Stephen Kabuye were on target in the first half for the Kongolo in their new branded jerseys.

Kawawa half-volleyed into the net from close range after a goal melee after 24 minutes while Kabuye headed home Geriga Atendele’s cut back six minutes later to double the lead.

after the break, Yusuf Ssozi came close for the Cops while at the other end, Alfred Leku saw his effort fly wide and over.

It was the 7th win for Arua Hill in 16 outings which takes their tally for the season to 26 points.

Henry Patrick Kaddu has returned to KCCA Football Club.

The forward who previously featured for the Lugogo-based side for two years (2017-2019) has signed a short-term deal that runs till the end of the 2021-22 season.

Kaddu who had moved to RS Berkane (Morocco) during the 2019-20 season and was later loaned out to Ismaily FC (Egypt) in 2020 has an option of a two-year extension after completion of the six-month contract with the club.

The former Kira Young and Maroons FC striker had been at Youssoufia Berrechid (Morocco) where he was released and rejoins KCCA as a free agent.

Kaddu will be competing for a place in Morley Byekwaso’s frontline with the likes of Davis Kasirye, Sadat Anaku, Charles Lwanga, Brian Aheebwa, and Erisa Ssekisambu who also just returned to the club.

During his first tenure with KCCA FC, Kaddu won two Uganda Premier League titles, two Uganda Cups, two Super Cups and also played in the CAF Champions League group stage in 2018.

Kaddu netted 32 goals in 64 games during his first stint, 7 of which were scored in the 2018 Uganda Cup which earned him the top scorer’s gong.

Express Football Club reached the Uganda Cup Round of 32 following an easy 3-0 win over 4th Division side PCCP FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

Forward George Senkaaba, winger Joseph Akandwanaho, and midfielder Yaya Mahad were on target for the Red Eagles in the first half.

Express went on the offensive shortly after kick-off and Akandwanaho’s blistering run on the left wing was too much for Mohamed Kawooya, fouling the winger in the forbidden area and center referee Alex Wasswa Alex pointed to the spot. Senkaaba stepped up and made no mistake from 12 yards in the second minute.

While PCCP seemed like they had settled in, it was the Red Eaglescelebrating again. Senkaaba made a run on the right flank and found space to cross and Akandwanaho headed home to make it 2-0 in the 38th minute.

A minute later, Senkaaba broke on the left and set up Kakooza who slotted home to make it 3-0 and the visitors went into the break with a comfortable lead that was maintained in the second half.

“I am glad we managed to win the game having been out for a while. We managed to use our chances to make it count and I am happy we also managed to keep a clean sheet. We now return to training to try and correct our mistakes ahead of the start of the Uganda Premier League second round,” said Express coach Wasswa Bbosa.

Express will now switch focus to the league. They will be away to Soltilo Bright Stars FC when the Uganda Premier League resumes in February.

The Uganda Senior women’s national football team, the Crested Cranes – has qualified for the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations.

Cranes made it to the showpiece after the withdrawal of Kenya from the qualifiers. Uganda was supposed to face them in the final qualifying phase.

The first leg had been scheduled for 17th February and the return leg coming a week later. However, all is now not going to happen, therefore Uganda progressing.

According to a communication from CAF, the Federation of Kenya Football (FKF) informed them about their decision to withdraw the team from the Qualifiers.

“We regret to inform you that we have just receive Kenya FA a correspondence informing us of their withdrawal from Women AFCON- Morocco 2022,” read the statement.

“Consequently, matches 45 and 46 are cancelled. Uganda is automatically qualified to the next round of the competition.”

Uganda had eliminated Ethiopia in the previous round where the Crested Cranes overcome their counterparts on a penalty shout-out.

This will be the second appearance for Crested Cranes at Africa Women Cup of Nations after making it in 2000.
