“We have adequately prepared for the game against Ghana and all players are geared towards our target which is winning.

“We respect Ghana because they have the pedigree. They have played at the World Cup before but my role is to prepare the players which we have done. It is what we offer at the pitch that matters not the history,” he said.

The winner between Uganda and Ghana on aggregate will face either Ethiopia or Tanzania at the final qualifying hurdle.

Hussein Mbalangu has resigned from his role as the head coach Mbarara City Football Club, sighting poor welfare and administration issues.

Mbalangu leaves along with Samuel Ssenyange (Assistant Coach) and Jamada Magasi (Goalkeeping Coach).

“We have come to a conclusion after observing a number of challenges ranging from the welfare to administration.

“The welfare of the players with the technical team, inclusive, has been poor regardless of the efforts. We have tried to address them to you officially, that we did in our first term report on 04/11/2021,” reads in part the letter addressed to club chairman Mwine Mpaka.

“Making matters worse, we have accumulated arrears of two full months yet it’s the same salary that we have to use for feeding, payment of our rental apartments and our entire families.

“Barely surviving in this city without earning any training allowance, sincerely we are left with no option.

“The technical department tried its best to convince some players recently in order to reinforce the team for the second round but the administration was reluctant to engage these players who ended up joining other teams.

“This time round it is beyond our control as we feel there is lack of unity in the club. It seems some individuals have their personal agendas.”

Mbarara City completed the first round in 12th position with 15 points, just four above the relegation zone.

Ugandan striker Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza has joined Kagera Sugar Football Club.

Ugandan Cranes defender Bevis Mugabi has been listed among the most iconic African players to grace Scottish football.

Mugabi joined Motherwell in the summer of 2019, after being released by Yeovil Town in England and he has since turned out to be a beloved one for both the fans and coaches.

The 26-year old’s  initial contract was bound to expire in 2020 but the Steelmen extended his stay until the end of next season.

According to curator Daily Record, Mugabi is “the most recent players on the list, it’s hard to say if the 26-year-old will be treated with the legendary status of others in years to come.”

Mugabi shares spots on the list with Victor Wanyama who played for Celtic, Sofien Moussa and Prince Buaben at Dundee, Arnaud Djoum at Hearts, Efe Ambrose at Hibernian among so many others.

The Ugandan received his first call up to the national team for a friendly against Kenya then a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Comoros.

He then made his international debut for Uganda on 24 March 2018 in their 3–1 friendly victory over São Tomé and Príncipe.

Wakiso Giants have signed striker Sam Ssenyonjo on loan until the end of the season, the club has confirmed.

“Wakiso Giants can confirm that Sam Ssenyonjo will join on loan from KCCA until the end of the season,” the club announced.

The highly-rated forward who was part of the Hippos team that reached the finals of the AFCON U20 Championship in Mauritania last year has been at KCCA since November 2019.

He, however, found playing time difficult to come his way in KCCA’s forward line that has the likes of Sadat Anaku, Davis Kasirye, Charles Lwanga, and Brian Aheebwa.

The Purple Sharks head coach Alex Gitta welcomed the young forward, saying Ssenyonjo will improve the club’s goal-scoring rate.

“He is a goal poacher and someone we believe will add on our goal scoring rate,” Gitta told the club website.

Ssenyonjo could make his debut later this month in the Uganda Cup as the Purple Sharks travel to Mityana to take on Kiyindi Boys FC at the Round of 64.
