Uganda secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Congo in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers encounter on Tuesday.
Travis Mutyaba scored the all-important goal as Uganda climaxed the campaign on a high.
Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put made five changes to the team that started against South Africa for tonight’s match in Brazzaville.
At left-back, Isaac Muleme replaced Aziz Kayondo, while Halid Lwaliwa was preferred over Timothy Awany in the heart of the backline.
In midfield, Ronald Ssekiganda took the place of Taddeo Lwanga, while Travis Mutyaba started ahead of Allan Okello in the attacking midfield role.
Upfront, Calvin Kabuye earned his first national team cap, replacing Jude Ssemugabi in the attack.
Uganda suffered a significant setback when skipper Khalid Aucho limped off with an injury and was replaced by Bobosi Byaruhanga.

Uganda is set to face Congo Brazzaville in their final Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifier on Tuesday.
The Cranes will look to end the campaign on a positive note after a disappointing 2-0 loss to South Africa, which knocked them off the top spot in the group. This defeat was a setback for both the team and their supporters.
A victory today would rekindle hope among Ugandan fans and reaffirm their belief in the team.
Having defeated Congo 2-0 in the first leg at Namboole, a win today would complete a double over their opponents.
While South Africa currently leads the group, Uganda still has a chance to claim the top spot if they win and South Sudan avoids a loss.
Congo has a recent record of one win, three losses, and a draw in their last five competitive matches. In contrast, Uganda has secured three wins, one draw, and one loss in their last five outings.
Historically, Uganda has a slight edge, winning three of the last five encounters against Congo. One match ended in a draw, and Congo claimed one victory.
The much-anticipated Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Clan Football Tournament and Amasaza Bicycle Racing Competition kicked off on Friday, November 15 with a vibrant and lively opening ceremony held at Masindi Booma Grounds.
The event was graced by Alex Katusabe, the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS), who represented Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi.
In his remarks, Katusabe expressed gratitude to MTN Uganda for their continued sponsorship of the tournament and support for other kingdom initiatives, including the prestigious Empango celebrations.
“We appreciate MTN Uganda for their unwavering support. Their sponsorship helps promote not only sports but also the cultural values that bind us together as a community,” Katusabe said.
He encouraged participants to engage in the games with enthusiasm and commitment, ensuring that the main objective of the competition—fostering unity and sportsmanship—is fully realized.
The competition began with a series of exciting events. The Amasaza Bicycle Race saw spirited participation from men and women across Masindi Municipality, Buruli, and Bujenje counties.
The first five finishers in each category secured spots in the next stage of the competition. Cash prizes were awarded to the top cyclists, with the winners taking home prizes ranging from Shs 500,000 for first place to Shs 50,000 for fifth place.
In the football tournament, four clans—Abahinda, Abafumambogo, Abakwonga, and Abairuntu—battled it out in a knockout format. The tournament saw intense matches, with Abafumambogo emerging as the standout clan. The results of the games were as follows:
Abafumambogo clan secured a spot in the next stage of the tournament after their hard-fought victories.
The opening ceremony was attended by a number of dignitaries, including representatives from MTN, Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, local government officials, religious leaders, and business personalities, all coming together to celebrate the spirit of unity and sportsmanship in the kingdom.
The action will continue on Friday, November 22 in Kiryandongo District, as the tournament and race move into the next phase.

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put expects a strong response from his team in their upcoming match against Congo Brazzaville.
Uganda suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
It was Uganda’s first loss in the campaign, and the large crowd that witnessed the disappointing performance was undoubtedly disheartened.
However, the coach believes his players will respond positively in the final group game against Congo Brazzaville.
“We should be able to react positively in our final group game against Congo (Brazzaville),” the coach wrote in a letter to Uganda Cranes’ fans.
“I have conveyed a message to my players to understand your feelings and respond accordingly. We will respond like true Uganda Cranes on the pitch next Tuesday,” he added.
Uganda currently sits second in Group K with 10 points after five matches.
Uganda will conclude the campaign on Tuesday, November 19, when they face Congo Brazzaville away from home.

Both sides were not sharp upfront as they struggled to get goalkeepers on either side in action.
