Express Football Club head coach Wasswa Bbosa has been found guilty of making unsporting comments by the Fufa Ethics and Disciplinary Committee during the defeat to Arua Hill on the season-opening day.

Bbosa allegedly said that “CEO Waffe Yasasudde ba referee bankube omupiira nkimanyi” loosely translated as “Our CEO paid the referees to ensure we lose this match”.

Match referee Lucky Kasalirwe gave a foul outside the area after Eric Kambale was felled around the edge of the area a decision that left Bbosa fuming.

“Wasswa Bbosa, the Head coach of Express FC has been suspended for three Competition matches and fined UGX2M for his unsporting comments made in the UPL match between Express FC and Arua Hill,” reads part of the statement released by Fufa.

“The fine of UGX2M must be paid within 15 days from receipt of the decision released today. He is required to produce proof of payment of the same to the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee by 5th November 2021.”

Bbosa will thus miss matches starting on Saturday at Bombo when the Red Eagles visit UPDF plus away match against Bul and at home against Vipers.

2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations Qualifiers
Second Round, First Leg
Uganda vs Ethiopia
Wednesday, 20th October 2021
St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende 4PM

Uganda face Ethiopia on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende in the first leg of the second round of the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

Uganda has registered two victories over the same side coming at the CECAFA Women’s Championship in 2018 (hosted by Rwanda) and 2009 in Tanzania.

The other encounters including 2018 AWCON Qualifiers and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Qualifiers have seen Ethiopia secure wins.

Crested Cranes head coach George Lutalo is confident the team is ready.

“We are fully aware of the threat that our opponents pose and we know how they play. But we have equally prepared well and ready for the job before us. The players are focused and committed to win on Wednesday,” he said during the pre match press briefing.

“Playing at COSAFA gave us a good test. We knew where we needed to improve and that’s what we have been working on since returning from South Africa.”

Captain Ruth Aturo also believes Uganda can upstage their African counterparts.

“I have been part of the National Team set up since 2016 and the progress we have had is evident. Back then, the team was just shaping but you can see we have a better squad capable of defeating Ethiopia.”

The return leg in Adis Ababa is slated for 26th October and the winner on aggregate will face either South Sudan or Kenya at the third and final qualifying phase.

Wakiso Giants coach Douglas Bamweyana has outlined areas that his side need to work on after losing to 3-0 to KCCA at home in the Uganda Premier League.

The Purple Sharks dominated the game at Kabaka Kyabaggu but lost despite creating the better of chances on the afternoon.

“It was a bad day at office – especially in terms of finishing,” he told the club media.

“Some aspects of our defending were suspect on individual levels and we gave off some very cheap goals.

“We created far more and better chances than our opponents but the difference that they even took the half chances they got except one and we created several but failed to hit the net.

“Fair play to their goalkeeper – I thought he had a fantastic game!

Overall, I was satisfied with lads’ efforts but our sharpness in wide channels and in front of goals must improve and fast. We shall attempt to solve these issues before Friday.

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Football Club head coach Sam Timbe has highlighted where his team needs to improve ahead of the return leg in the CAF Confederation Cup away to Al Masry in Egypt.

Speaking to the media during the official post-match press conference at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende after the goal-less draw, Timbe praised his players.

“This was a fair result considering the fact that we lost almost 10 players as were told at the last moment that they would not play (because of COVID-19),” he remarked.

Flanked by the club goalkeeper Nafian Legason Alionzi, Timbe explained areas where URA needs to step-up.

We need to improve upon the interception of the ball from the opponents. There is need to close the spaces faster and trapping of the opponents. We embark on early preparations for the return leg on Monday and we need to improve upon the mistakes done in the first leg.

Goalkeeper Nafian Legason Alionzi felt the result was fair.

“The 0-0 result at home was a positive result. We got a clean sheet from the game and scoring in Egypt will get us an upper hand,” Alionzi said.

“First, we were demoralized when the COVID-19 results were revealed to us late before kick-off. However, we recomposed ourselves and gained focus. We are seeking for a goal in the return leg.”

The return leg will be played on Saturday, 23rd October 2021 in Egypt.
