Match Officials:

Uganda Cranes play host to neighbours Rwanda Amavubi Stars at St Mary’s Stadium – Kitende in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The Cranes beat Amavubi Stars 1-0 in the opening leg on Thursday in Nyamirambo thanks to Fahad Bayo’s goal, and the hosts will be hoping to complete a double.

Micho is well aware that maximum points may send the side on top of Group E depending on the outcome of Mali’s game against Kenya.

Stand-in captain Khalid Aucho will miss the encounter due to suspension after picking a yellow card in Rwanda and Denis Iguma will captain the side.

“We know the fans will be watching, we go there knowing that you will be with us in spirit. We will give our best.

“I want to thank all the players for the effort we put in Rwanda. It’s not yet over, we respect them, they can also win here as well, but we will give our best and we are very prepared,” said Iguma ahead of the game.

There is no room for error for the Cranes as only the top side in the group advances to the last qualification stage.

Rwanda who were unlucky not to pick a point given their impressive start and big share of possession will need the forwards Jacques Tuyisenge and Meddie Kagere to be at their best if they are to pick something at Kitende.

Uganda’s U20 Women’s National Team progressed to the third round of the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers after completing a double over neighbours Kenya.

Uganda beat Kenya 3-1 at St. Mary’s Stadium – Kitende on Friday thanks to goals from Margaret Kunihira, Hadijah Nandago, and Juliet Nalukenge.

Skipper Peris Oside converted from the spot to give Kenya the consolation.

Kunihira fired the home side into the lead barely a quarter an hour into the game, tapping home a well-delivered corner kick by Sumaya Komuntale.

The lead was however short-lived with the visitors leveling matters five minutes later through Oside’s penalty.

However, Uganda regained the lead about five minutes to the halftime break through diminutive midfielder Nandago.

As the game neared the end, Nalukenge made up for the misses with a stoppage-time free-kick from the edge of the area.

The result means Uganda advances to the next round of the qualifiers with a 10-3 score on aggregate having won the reverse fixture 7-2 at Nyayo National Stadium a couple of weeks ago.

Uganda will now take on South Africa in the next round.

Uganda’s XI: Daphine Nyayenga(GK), Samalie Nakacwa, Sumaya Komuntale, Bira Nadunga, Aisha Nantongo, Shakira Nyinagahirwa, Shamirah Nalugya, Hadijah Nandago, Juliet Nalukenge, Fauzia Najjemba, Margret Kunihira

Kenya’s XI: Sophy Akinyi (GK), Lavender Akinyi, Peris Oside (C), Eunice Mwangi, Lucy Kahuga, Maxmilla Robi, Charity Midewa, Catherine Aringo, Joy Kinglady, Fasila Adhiambo, Shalyene Opisa.

Uganda Cranes midfielder Khalid Aucho is set to miss the home clash against Amavubi on Sunday, 10th October in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The Cranes stand-in captain will miss the clash through suspension having been booked in 63rd minute during the 1-0 win at Nyamirambo.

It was his second booking of the qualifying campaign after he was also yellow carded in the goalless draw away to Kenya at Nyayo National Stadium.

In his absence, head coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic will be required to find a replacement in his position and also the team captain on the day.

Vipers Sports Club youngster Bobosi Byaruhanga will most likely return to the defensive position alongside Taddeo Lwanga in the Sunday clash at St. Mary’s Stadium – Kitende.

FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers (Group E):

Forward Fahad Bayo was the star of the show as he found the back of the net for to ensure a win for Uganda Cranes over Amavubi Stars during the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda.

Bayo was in best position to tap in off Bobosi Byaruhanga’s initial shot that had been blocked following a curling free-kick delivery from the left flank by Czech Republic-based Isaac Muleme.

Even though Bayo limped out for Cromwell Rwothomio later on, the job had been pretty much done after a few futile attempts by Rwanda.

The victory meant Uganda top group E of qualification with 5 points from three games. The visitors kept their clean defensive record of no goal conceded so far in the campaign.

Uganda hosts Rwanda this coming Sunday at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Rwanda and Uganda face off in the third match of the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers with either seeking their first win of the campaign.

The Amavubi Stars have lost and drawn against Mali (0-1) and Kenya (1-1) while the Cranes have played to two goalless draws against the same opponents.

A win for Cranes takes Uganda temporarily on top of Group E while a win for the hosts draws them level on points with leaders Mali who face Kenya.

Uganda Cranes stand-in captain Khalid Aucho is optimistic about a win at Kigali Regional Stadium in Nyamirambo.

“We have played many derbies and won. The players are ready for Rwanda. The young players in the team are like babies taking their first steps to walk. They want to prove a point and are willing to deliver for the Uganda Cranes and make the fans happy.

“We are only thinking about winning the match against Rwanda,” the midfielder said ahead of the game.

Haruna Niyonzima, the captain of Rwanda, revealed how important the game against Uganda is and says their focus is on getting all 3 points.

“We have a very strong game or is it a‘ derby’ as we like to say. It is a game that is of great value to us and we hope that we will do our best and come back victorious.”

“If we win this game we know we will go ahead of Uganda, so that’s what we’ve put so much emphasis on,” Niyonzima said.

Cranes head coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic expects nothing short of victory against the Amavubi stars.

“After the match with Mali, our foreign-based players put themselves in the competitive mode while the local players got a chance to win places in the squad after playing four practice matches. They have shown desire to be in the squad. I believe they will deliver.

“With due respect to Rwanda, our target is to get maximum points from these games. Nothing less than that,” said the Serbian coach.

Micho’s opposite Vincent Mashami says his charges will do their best to get maximum points from their regional rivals.

“We are ready to face Uganda. That in itself makes Thursday’s game more extraordinary.

“We will do our best to take the three points. We are looking forward to beating Uganda and we are better prepared than ever. We assure all our fans that they will watch a good Rwandan side that is aiming to win,” Mashami said as quoted by Ferwafa.
