Uganda Premier League | Result

Maroons and UPDF played to a one-all draw in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Luzira Prisons Ground on Sunday.

Jackson Nunda and Hussein Zzinda scored for Maroons and UPDF in the thrilling stalemate.

Muhajid Ogama and Ibrahim Dada came so close but put to waste clear opportunities for the hosts.

In the same spirit, Samuel Ssekamatte and Joseph Janjali had a chance to give UPDF the lead but failed to find the back of the net.

However, in the 83rd minute, Nunda fired Maroons ahead with a thunderous effort as the hosts got on their feet.

With a minute left on the clock, Zzinda easily tapped home on a rebound as Maroons’ custodian Hassan Matovu tried to punch away a strong effort.

Next on the menu, Maroons will host Wakiso Giants on Friday, September 20, while UPDF will play Lugazi in Bombo a day earlier.

Latest league entrants Lugazi Football Club are set to face to Kitara in their maiden Uganda Premier League encounter at Lugazi Stadium, Najjembe on Saturday.

This will be a worth test for Lugazi FC as they test their tools, quality and resilience to see if they fit the requirements of top tier football.

Lugazi head coach Sadiq Ssempigi is aware of the threat ahead and he expects a tough test from the Royals.

“Kitara is a very good team and a very tough challenger. They have had very good games in the pre-season, I watched most of their games in the FUFA Super 8 and the Confederation Cup,” the gaffer told the club media.

“They are very ambitious, play well and they have fared well in the market – they really have good players who think will give us a very tough challenge,” he added.

“But I want to accept that we are at home and we know the kind of opponent we are going to face. We are going to work hard to make sure we answer most of the questions that will be presented.”

Kitara’s red hot forward line which has Denis Omedi and Jude Ssemugabi will face an experienced backline that is expected to have Bashir Asiku and Richard Ayiko.

In the previous campaign, Kitara finished fourth on the log before clinching the Uganda Cup trophy, with that at hand the Royals will push for more accolades.

Uganda Premier League | Results

KCCA registered a well-deserved 1-0 victory URA FC on match day one of the 2024-25 Uganda Premier League campaign.

In the game played at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo under the floodlights as the hosts claimed maximum points on the day.

In the 12th minute, Moses Aliro was quick to give the Tax Collectors the opener, but custodian Mutwalibu Mugolofa rushed off the line to make a big save.

Four minutes later, KCCA came so close with a powerful header, but URA custodian Derrick Ochan was quick to thwart away the effort.

Godfrey Sekibengo twisted and turned defender Musitafa Mujuzi before he pulled off a strong shot, though the effort went inches above the frame in the 20th minute.

Saidi Mayanja broke the deadlock with a belter at half an hour.

Despite a great fight staged up by the Tax Collectors, they went to bed and were punished right away.

With seven minutes to play, custodian Mugolofa pulled off a stunning save to deny Norman Namanya, whose powerful strike travelled from a distance.

Derrick Nsibambi thought he had doubled the hosts’ lead, but the assistant referee flagged the finish offside.

The victory gave the Kasasiro Boys a perfect start, unlike the sorrow witnessed in the previous edition.

Uganda U20 Men’s National Team has learned their group mates in the upcoming CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers.

The confirmation was made today, Thursday, September 12, 2024, via the club’s official media platforms.

The draws were conducted by CECAFA Competitions Manager, Yusuf Mossi at the Azam TV studio in Dar es Salaam.

Uganda Hippos have been pitted in Group B alongside South Sudan, Burundi, and Ethiopia.

Uganda is the defending champion after beating South Sudan in the previous editions.

This year’s edition will be played from October 6 to 20 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Uganda Premier League side Express has confirmed the signing of left-back Mustafa Kizza in the ongoing transfer window.

The former KCCA FC roving left-back put pen on a one-year employment contract.

Kizza is known for his balance in defensive and attacking abilities that have made him exceptional in the specific position.

The defender’s arrival is expected to strengthen Express’ roaster who are preparing to start life at their new home Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.

Kizza recently left his boyhood club KCCA FC before he was linked to several clubs but he decided to join the Red Eagles.

He becomes Express’ second signing following the arrival Saidi Kyeyune who switched from the Tax Collectors.

The Red Eagles will kick-start the 2024-25 campaign against Mbale Heroes on Saturday at Nakivubo.

Uganda Premier League side Maroons FC has confirmed 12 new players in the ongoing transfer window ahead of the start of the league.

The Luzira based side has recruited 12 new Prison Wardens as the league is set to get under way on Friday, September 13.

The list of 12 players bares goalkeeper Simon Tamale who left the side a season ago to play for Rayon Sport in Rwanda.

Still in the goalkeeping department, Maroons has bolstered the squad with Hassan Matovu while Amir Nalugoda has been retained from the previous season.

Apollo Kagogwe is expected to strengthen the side’s backline while Jamal Ssemwogerere comes in as a defensive midfielder.

Former Bright Stars and UPDF forward Muwadda Mwajje joins the club to add onto the squad’s depth after playing in the league for quite a while.

Ivan Asaba is expected to revive his stunted career after being given a chance to play at the Luzira-based side.

In the same breath, Ibrahim Dada, Rogers Kiwanuka, Brian Omirambe and Ivan Mayanja are expected to ignite the flames upfront.

Maroons will kick start their 2024/25 season journey in the home tie against UPDF in Luzira on Sunday, September 15.   

Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC is set to celebrate the KCCA FC Day today themed ‘Ekiri e Lugogo’.

The highly anticipated celebrations will be held at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

The day will feature several events, such as unveiling the 2024/25 squad as well as the squad.

But before that, there will be a game between KCCA Legends and Uganda Cranes Ex internationals as the club rolls back memory lane.

KCCA CEO Anishar Shahir Muhoozi has emphasised that the event is meant to connect with the club’s fans.

“The event is meant for the club to connect with its fans and supporters,” she stated.

“We want to give our fans and supporters a chance to come together and celebrate the club ahead of the 2024-25 season,” she added.

“The friendly match between our legends and ex-internationals are opportunities where we seek to renew the memories of the yesteryears.”

The event will be free of charge for all the club’s fans and well wishers.

Uganda Cranes have beaten Congo 2-0 in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.

Aziz Kayondo and Jude Ssemugabi scored for the Cranes who picked their first win of the campaign that took their points tally to 4 in two games, and top of the group.

Uganda started the match on the front foot seeking for an opener in front of a loud crowd.

In the third minute, the Cranes got their first chance at goal. Denis Omedi cut in from the left but his shot from just outside the box went over the bar.

Muhammad Shaban played Rogers Mato through but the latter was a second late for the pass.

Kayondo made a quick throw in to Mato who played Shaban through but the center forward was a bit slow with Congo clearing their lines.

At the quarter hour mark, Cranes had another chance. Ssekiganda played a long ball to find Mato who dribbled his way into the box but his ground cross was cleared.

In the 20th minute, Cranes took the lead through Aziz Kayondo who beat goalie with a cross-cum-shot. The left back recieved the ball in space from Mato driving through about 20 yards before shooting at goal for the opener.

Mato could have doubled the lead five minutes later but he could not find the target after cutting in to shoot.

The Cranes suffered a setback as Shaban paved way for Jude Ssemugabi before halftime with an injury.

In the second half, Uganda took the foot off the pedal with Congo taking control of some moments in search of an equalizer.

However, the introduction Allan Okello for Travis Mutyaba restored some urgency in the Cranes attack. The Vipers forward set up Ssemugabi to seal the points for the home side with four minutes to full time.

Uganda returns to action on 7th October when they host South Sudan at Namboole.

Uganda secure a 1-0 half time lead against Congo Brazaville in the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers in the encounter played at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Monday.

Roving left back, Aziz Kayondo’s effort is still the difference between the two sides after the 45 minutes in the ongoing entertaining game.

Paul Put made two changes as Kenneth Semakula and Muhammad Shaban came into the starting eleven to replace Elvis Bwomono and Steven Mukwala respectively.

Uganda started right away on the front foot seeking for an opener as well as the driving seat infront of a loud crowd.

Kayondo broke the deadlock with a deep effort that eluded the custodian into the back of the net.

The Cranes will seek to hang in and fight for maximum points so as to enlighten their path to the 2025 final AFCON tournament.

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has named the team to take on Cong in the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The major change in the team has seen Kenneth Ssemakula named to start at right back in the place of Elvis Bwomono while Muhammad Shaban replaces Steven Mukwala upfront.

Ismaa Watenga maintains his place in goal with Bevis Mugabi and Elio Capradossi pairing up in the centre of defence while Aziz Kaayondo maintains his place at left-back.

Skipper Khalid Aucho and Ronald Ssekiganda are joined by Travis Mutyaba in midfield while Rogers Mato, Muhammad Shaban and Denis Omedi form the front three.
