Uganda Premier League side KCCA has confirmed the signing of experienced forward Derrick Nsibambi in the ongoing transfer window.
Nsibambi put pen to a two-year employment contract that will keep him at the club until July of 2026.
The goal poacher returns to the club that brought him to the big scene from 2014 to 2018.
He believes that he is back home and is excited to get started again after completing the transfer.
“I’m happy to be back home where it all started. I know this club through and through, and I know what it means to the fans. I can’t wait to get started again,” he shared.
Nsibambi left KCCA in 2018, and he has played for different clubs across the continent in countries like Egypt, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Oman.
His return seeks to feel the big void created by the departure of Muhammad Shaban, who joined Al Hilal Beghanzi in Libya.
Nsibambi will compete for a starting berth in the striking position with Abubaker Mayanja and Emmanuel Anyama.
Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho has sent a strong message to the fans calling upon them to support the team.
On Friday, September 6, 2024, Uganda Cranes will face South Africa in the first game of the upcoming AFCON Qualifiers.
The two countries will lock horns in a highly anticipated game in Johannesburg at Orlando Stadium, and Aucho believes that the fans’ support will have a positive impact on the performance.
“I call upon the fans that can make it to the stadiums so that they rally behind the boys (Uganda Cranes),” he stated.
“I know that the boys will be so proud and energetic thus throwing their bodies on the line,” he added.
Aucho missed the previous two Uganda Cranes’ games due to injury, but the Young Africans’ midfielder is excited about his return to the fold.
“I am happy to be back to the team. When I reached the camp I discovered that everyone is fit and ready for the game,”
“I believe that they are focused and ready to offer Ugandans the best as we take on South Africa in a few days to come,” he concluded.
Reigning FUFA Super 8 champions BUL Football Club has already set the league title as their target as we head into the new season.
This comes after, BUL edged Vipers 6-5 on penalties after firing blanks in normal time at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Sunday.
The oil manufacturers went into the books of record as the first club to win the trophy back-to-back.
After the match, BUL head coach Abbey Kikomeko expressed great enthusiasm ahead of the upcoming season.
“Now that we have taken the trophy, it has motivated us very well. We expect a good start to the season,” he said.
“The tournament has prepared us very well because we’ve played harder teams, so I think by the time we begin the season, we’ll be very prepared,” he added.
“Last season, we finished second; definitely, there’s nothing else apart from the trophy. We are targeting the league trophy, nothing else.”
In the previous season, BUL finished second with 56 points, one behind champions SC Villa. Kikomeko believes extra determination can see them eventually lift the title.
Bugabula continued their strong start in this year’s MTN Busoga Masaza Cup with a 2-1 win over a determined Bunhole Bunhanhumba in Sunday’s Mawembe Hill Group match played at Kamuli Park Playground.
The home side, led by golden boot contender Majid Kazindula, took the lead in the 37th minute when he capitalized on a loose ball from teammate Collins Wakowera, volleying home.
However, the visitors responded quickly after the break. Rashid Mugere levelled the score in the 47th minute with a clever chip over Bugabula’s advancing goalkeeper, Reagan Mudusu.
Despite several defensive lapses, Bunhole Bunhanhumba managed to stay in the contest, thanks to their exceptional goalkeeper, Nasser Kalulu, who made several saves.
However, the decisive moment came in the 75th minute when Aaron Birikadde unleashed a thunderous strike from about 25 yards out, leaving Kalulu helpless as Bugabula secured their second campaign win.
With this victory, Bugabula tops the group standings with six points, while Bunhole Bunhanhumba sits in second place with three points. Bukono remains without a point after the first round.
Reflecting on the match, Bugabula coach Ronald Lukungu said; “It was a tense match against a very good team that competed well against us in the first half, but our calm approach in the second half helped us to bag home three points. It’s a pleasure to be among the teams leading a group before the interval.”
Bunhole Bunhanhumba’s coach, Ali Kasolo, expressed optimism despite the loss. “My players did not have a chance of training together in the camp. But we hope to give Bugabula a good game in the return fixture next weekend. I pledge to the team patron to improve on the team’s support.”
The action resumes next weekend with a series of matches in the second round.
